Hi,

I was kind of planning to keep my old CRT for a while longer, but I saw some wide angle 24" monitors today that just, well got me all gooey.

If you have experience with the BenQ G2400W, could you share your experiences?

Thx. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

PS I know IL2 doesn't support wide-angle, but it must be nice elsewhere.

I can't help you with the BenQ sorry, I looked at it and it's hard to decide but price made the choice for me.
I hope I'm not disappointed.

I just ordered the Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP- HC
Good luck.
Ibis.

Its the budget version of there FP241 range so not sure but its worth checking if they use the same panel as teh FP241 is the best 24" available. I would check out www.widescreengaming.com (http://www.widescreengaming.com) to see if they have a review as they will take the thing apart and tell you the things from a technical standpoint and compare it with other similar monitors.

One thing to note with BenQ is there dead pixel return policy isn't too great but I've never seen a TFT with a dead pixelhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you're in the UK and buy a monitor using the internet, you can return it under the Distance Selling Regulations even if it has only one dead pixel, regardless of the manufacturers/sellers dead pixel policy. You don't even have to give a reason.

The Dell UltrasharpWFP line is absolutely top-notch. I was all setup to get the same 24" 2407 and got a coupon from Dell to get the 2707WFP for $850! Price was the kicker for me too. I couldn't say no to that price...and it's schweet!

We have two Benq 23" LCDs and they have been awesome. No problems whatsoever, easy config for IL2

Thx for your replies. Is 27" to be the next 'normal'? I've got a 22" CRT which is effectively a 19" in terms of LCDs, so going to 24" should be enough. I was hoping VR Googles would have come of age by now... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/crackwhip.gif

BTW It looks like widescreengaming.com has turned into a directory site. Ads, ads and more ads.

Good luck with the Dell, Ibis. It should be a goodie! Let us know what you think, eh?

I go for a 22" next,I doubt my comp would cope with something much bigger than that.

The one thing to beware for anyone buying a large monitor, 23" or more, if you intend to run in a large 16:9/10 resolution like 1920x1200 you will need at least 256mb video memory and preferably 512mb for many games because of the texture sizes involved. IL2 seems to be fine with 256mb.

try that. I got the link wrong. Forgot the forum bit. Well worth a read if your considering a new monitor.

Actually, the Dell 2407WFP-HC is cheaper than that quoted USofA price of $850 if you know where to look :
http://www.pcbuyit.co.uk/ = GBP417.12 ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

It's a brilliant monitor, and quite happy running at its non-native resolution of 1920x1200 if your card isn't up to it with il2, a lot more stylish than the Benq, and better quality all round in my opinion.

Probably not. The 24" widescreen is the size most review sites and gaming rags settle on as their preferred "standard". It'll probably remain so for at least another 12+ months.

If you're moving from a 22" CRT to a 24" LCD widescreen, you'll enjoy a nice increase in visual real estate as well as all the benefits of a flatscreen.

I have the Dell 2407 WFP and it's image and response time is very good. The navtive resolution is 1920x1200. The only thing I don't like about it is it puts out a lot of heat, I hope that doesn't hurt my Track IR sitting on top of it. pd about $600 US for it couple of months ago, -direct from Dell. My Nvidea 8800 GTX card goes well with it with 60 fps in FB.

The BenQ G2400W is great!

In fact, it actually beats the Dell EP248WFD. I actually have owned four different HD monitors within the last week or two, I wrote up a quick review.

The BenQ is the best!

I hear the 24" Acer: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009125 is the best screen for the money. Also you can edit the conf.ini to allow or widescreen resolutions, it crops a little of the top and bottom but most say it's worth it.

I cant tell you about the BenhQ.. but I did get a 24" Acer.. and it is the bee's knees man.... If you go widescreen I highly reccomend patience and going for nothing less than 24", especially if yoiu can catch a good sale. You wont be sorry and you might even smack your self for waiting so long.

The acer is good and worth the money but the BenQ will give a better picture. Its all down to the panels...
