My god. I'd put that one completely out of my mind. Downloading now though... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Big innit? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Not as detailed as Canon's maps, but this is intentional - built for coops etc, rather than sightseeing. Though Canon's London was beautiful, on my relic PC it was all a bit of a slideshow. None of these those problems here. Plonked myself in a Spit at Croydon aerodrome, had a quick buzz over London, then set off for France. Lovely. I'd got Fraps going, and tried to take screenshots, but they don't seem to be in the folder. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

If you've got an UP setup, the dedicated installer from their site works fine. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

A few screenshots of the new map. These are with my default crappy graphics settings, no doubt a decent PC would look better.

Over Sussex, looking for trouble:

I got into a long dogfight with another yellow-nosed b*****d, but ran out of ammo without downing him. Had to head home - he followed for a bit, but changed his mind. Back to West Malling for a cup of tea and a biscuit while the erks refuel and rearm:

Can this map be played in QMB? I was only able to do it in COOP multiplay...

Um, we aren't supposed to give technical help on mods here, nvrsummer2. You'll have to ask elsewhere. I'd try at your regular source of mods...

How can a map be classified as a mod????

Because of the way IL-2 is structured, you have to mod it for the map to be recognised. There are also some 'mod objects' on the map. That's just the way it is. Thumbs up to the 352nd for the work they've put in though. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Crappy settings or not, till so far you seem to be the only one showing some screenies of this new map after the release more than a week ago. I visited several Il-2 related sites but no screenshots at all.I used to be very enthusiastic about this map about a year ago but since I've read about
a: no new objects, just stock objects
b: no populated cities but phototextures

it turned out as a disappointment to me and not worth the effort of downloading it.
I still enjoy Canonuk's version of this area with his created objects which makes it very authentic.
Maybe I will see some new screenies which convinces me to give it a try. But for just phototextures I have Google Earth.

Tied that map and gotta say, quality work. Apporaching the cliffs of Dover now really is a sight to behold and comes close to the atmosphere one imagines in doing so. Distances are convincing as well, it's a whole new feeling of epicness involved now.

ONly one compliant,a t least here it appears that objects only pop up at extremely close ranges. You have to apporach a city or harbor for a long time and only in the very last moments do the buildings and objects appear. I suppose that was build int to save frames, but the effect in game is rather dissapointing, especially if you see ships for quite some time out and suddenly they are hidden behind some sort of structure.

This is the dilemma of doing one to one scale maps with this aging game engine. Team Pacific's Slot map works well because there really are so few objects on it, being mostly ocean. Can you imagine the number of objects that would have to be placed on this full scale map of the Channel Front? No one could run it. I would suggest that the number of objects placed to give this map a more accurate "feel" would be in the hundreds of thousands.

If we all want full size maps, and we all claim to, then we must accept compromises because of this tired old game. It's just a fact of life.

Patiently waiting for S0W here.

my first impressions are the England looks a lot better than the continent, very limeted use of textures on that side of the channel, but regardless its great to be able to fly on a 1:1 scale map of this area.

Indeed thefruitbat, I am just starting work on a "Channel Dash" scenario, and I want to do a Battle of France one as well, as I need a good place to fly my beloved Hawk 75s.
