Great photos. Really. Thanks for sharing.

Perhaps this has been covered already, but I have never seen this question asked.
What are the fins on the propeller spinners for? I never knew, and I have never asked before now.

They are a pretty crude, but effective way of achieving automatic propeller-pitch.

As the aircraft flies faster, they're getting turned (they're not linked to the prop disc for that matter) ever faster.
Pitch is set depending on those fins' RPM.

Great pictures!!!! And they will be useful reference photos for the future in case Oleg or anyone else wants to build one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif. The 'Charts and Tables' sticky ought really have it's name changed, allowing for reference photos too: For high quality images like these, and especially for interior photos. They are always very hard to find when you want them.

Thanks for that information Bremspropeller - now I finally know what those fins are for.

BTW: I should have known that beating dead horses such as the 500th Bf109-performance-thread are more popular than some first-class pics of the Charkov-Front in '42 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Are those small bombs underneath the wings of the Fw189? I cant quite make them out?

Caption or not, there's no mistaking flying over downtown Kharkov when you see it.

Nice photos and one of the best things I have seen posted here in a while.

The FW-189 from accounts appears to have been an absolute joy to fly. It is a shame there are not more of these rare birds around.

IIRC, two are being restored.

All the best,

Crumpp

Correct on those two birds in restoration. One (WNr 2100, tactical code V7 + 1H of 1.(H)/32) was pulled from the artic woods near Loukhi (south of Kandalaksha at the White Sea) and its pilot (Lothar Mothes), who had walked back to finnish-german lines, was more than stunned that it had been salvaged.

Xiolablu3,

In QMB, you can set the FW-189 to carry 4 50Kg bombs. IIRC.

Interesting side note, the film clip is marked AGFA. I read the other day that AGFA's color process was seized as enemy property & used for large amounts of wartime filming.

Sadly, my Big Brother filter at work won' let me pull up the link. If the shot of the FW189 is representative, I can't wait to get home & have a peek.

These photos were posted a couple of months ago, but its good to see them again.
There are several colour photos of a Luftwaffe base as well, one of which shows a group standing round a burning coffin. What is going on there?

I was wondering about that as well.

Yeah, surely it cant be a funeral? The men look happy through the whole event, and surely they wouldnt cremate somebody in the middle of a field?

BTW, the future new recce triggers and all that graphic data are calling for a flyable 189 and new possibilities in gameplay. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

The german on the end of one of those hexagonal coffins seems to translate as "Me too!!" or "Also me!!" which is odd for a funeral.
