I am using an Audigy2 and the sound issues I am experiencing with FB 1.1b are starting to get annoying.

The three worst are no radio voice sounds, a popping sound every once and a while, and sounds I hear but I should not. Online I would get a REALLY loud gun sound from time to time, and I thought I had taken a 50mm round to the wing or something, turns out it was the Battleship offshore firing. Somehow I was hearing it fire as if I was standing on the deck of the ship when I was really about 5 miles away in a cockpit.

If you could tell me what settings you use i would be most grateful.

I am using the Audigy Platinum with the Live Drive here is my setup:

Settings = Sound Blaster Live Settings
Play Back Channels = 32
Speaker Type = Surround
3D Engine Mode = Full
Sampling Rate = 44100
Audio Enhancements and hardware acceleration is checked
Radio Chatter is checked
Auto Activation is checked

Make these settings from the external hardware setup not the sound setup while FB is running. If you make changes to the sound while you are running FB you will lose all radio communication and you will most likely have to exit FB and restart it to get them back. I will say this the 3D sound engine for FB needs some work and you will probably not be 100% satisfied with the sound. I have already posted my view on the sounds. But just wait a while i'm sure they will make a correction in the next patch.

Offline - sound is terrific.

Online - sound is muffled to the point of not being able to hear the engine. Distant flak and sirens are heard loudly though.

5.12.183 Drivers for Audigy2
32 Channels
44100
Extensions Enabled
Hardware Accel. set to Full (in DirectX diag)

I have Audigy. I reduced volume from MAX in properties. Basic set up is
Playback channels 16
Speaker type headphones
sample rate: 22050
audio enhancements on.
Drivers: audio 1.0.0.1 11/08/03

I was getting pops at first, now stopped. I do get a dimming that appears about once per mission. So far so good after only 6 hours

I am not liking the sound at all. It is very strange online. As another guy said above, You can hear sounds from miles away that you should never hear, But can't hear your own engine. The sounds seems good for a while, then it softens to almost mute sometime during the flight for no reason.

There is a constant arcade sounding gunshot that goes off about every 5 seconds that is really annoying.

I dont mind hearing other planes, but hearing everything in the game all at once is a bit much!

This is all a real bummer because I really liked the original sound engine. It seems some people did have probs with it, but I think they were mostly hardware incompatability issues. I never had a problem with the original sound.

OOps, almost forgot. I am using Audigy 2.

When I set mine to 32 chanels I get lag and a echo in the Machine guns... but when I go to 16 sounds it does not echo or lag.

The rest of the problems here I get also , sound drifts in and out.. thing along that line..

I about jumped out of my seat when I heard a blast from somewhere and it was loud.. I thought a AA shell went off in the cockpit with me lol.

I'll tweak things according to what settings you guys are using, thanks for your responses. Sounds like another patch is in order unfortunately, if Hunter cant even sort things out.

Sound is flakey on my Audigy 1 and NForce cards.

I'm not annoyed just p*ssed off weary again at 1c's poor attention to sound.

Goto SimHQ and see all the sound problems/solutions there too.

I have an Audigy MP3+ and never experienced any problems with the patch. Latest (5.12.1.383) drivers, DX9.0b and pretty much default settings for FB sound.

PF Coastie, I can't find Hunter's thread for the workaround. Can you link it? Thanks.

I've read about sound woes and frankly not sure why I dont have any. Audigy OEM sound card.8/12/2002 is the driver date and 5.12.1.253 is the driver version. Hope it helps.
My game settings are:
'custom'
'playback chanels 16'
'headphones'
'3D engine mode balanced'
'sampling rate 44100'
Audio enhancements is clicked ON
both radio chatters are clicked OFF

My sound is phenomenal. my ONLY itch is the echo in the headphones and ONLY when I'm using teamspeak, otherwise its perfect.
forgot, did get the directx latest from MS site- 'b' version

Audigy2 here, reinstalled the card CD software after d/l DX9.0b and applied the June patch from soundblaster.com for XP... sound is OK, no crackling (which I had before reinstallation) bomb dropping hearable, just when flak fires the sound reduces for a while and then comes back. No problems here. Maybe I was a good boy.

This is something I've never heard of, sound settings on the game CD. I can't find any... is it a document describing settings or what? And on which disc is it on, one or two?

EDIT:
Ah ok, found them. Thanks.

Well, not completely true, I still use the Catalyst 3.5 drivers, the 3.6 make the buttons in the menu really distorted and in another game it broke FSAA under DirectX, since I didn't notice any performance gain or IQ difference I send 2 reports to ATI and installed the 3.5 drivers again.

Now waiting what the 3.7 drivers have to bring.

I agree with the loud reports from artillery.

When I fly over large concentrations of artillery (non-AA), occasionally I hear a REAL loud report that literally make's me jump. It sounds like I have a tailgunner with a 8 inch Howizer.

Hi,
Sound, I guess is ok with me and vers 1.1b.
I actually liked the sound in retail version better, but not complaining /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

A couple of things I noticed is everything sounds like your flying in a metal room in the cockpit.
Also on a campaign, when my squad is lined up on the runway, I can still hear the leader taking off very loud even as he gains considerable distance from me.

Not sure about this one--The 109 in combat flaps used to make a clicking noise, now in 1.1b it sounds like a very low crackling/fuzzy noise??
