From these accounts, it looks like the Mossie offensive raids had definate tactical targets, aimed at disrupting enemy supply and communications.

Thanks for posting.

Interesting read, thanks.

I had no idea that Mossies destroyed so many enemy planes.

I dont mean to whine but I cant help but think the Mossie in game is a bit weak.

At the end of WW2 the USAAF was seriously considering buying Mosquitos from the RAF thanks to its incredible performance, but in the end decided against it.

If we compare the P38 and MOssie in game, then you would have to think that the USAAF would never even have considered Mosquitos, they would have used P38's. In game the P38 does everything better.

MAybe its because we only have a 1942 Mosquito.
The model ingame doesnt seem to live up to the real airplanes reputation. Its pretty mediocre.

Great fun on 1942 maps, (UKded2's 'Dalmatia' is based around Mosquito and Me110 raids) but you are very vulnerable to fighters. Often safer to take an A20, or B25 which seems a bit odd.

The 8th AF used Mossies for photorecon, right?

In Feb 44 deliveries of an intial batch of 20 PR XVIs began with the 8th. They were to have 3 roles > target weather recon, night photo recon and radar scope photography of selected targets.

The radar scope photography a/c were equiped with H2S.

The Mossie was superior to the F-5 Lightning in range and ceiling and could carry the 36" focal length camera which the F-5 could not.

For more info see the InAction book #1127.

USAAF also flew Mossie in special operations. Specifically in support of OSS operations over Berlin toward the end of the war.

See here for an extremely brief overview:

The speeds we can check, but, handling of the IL-2 version is not very good. Stall is sudden and harsh. I have no idea if that is correct of not. I guess the planes to compare the Mossie against are the A20, Beaufighter and Pe-3.
