Hello,
Now that we have all tested the sim it is clear from recent forum postings that the whole
discussion has centered on graphic cards.I would like to know from those who have already the above 2 models which gives the best results for PF and wether it is better to wait for summer next year when BOB is out to make a major investment and overhaul.

Someone informed me a few days ago that apparently AMD have stated that the new PCI Express Cards aren't compatible with the AMD Chips and won't be until Summer 2005.

I would check this out first before buying any of your List.

I suggest you wait till next year, after the christmas prices will probably come down. But if you have the money to spend i suggest the GeForce 6800 GT 256mb. It's about as fast as Ultra but 100$/" cheaper. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What about the 6800 standart w/128MB?
Many harware forums says this card is the best bang for your buck (price-benefit relationship)
What do you think?

I would not go for the standard 128meg 6800.

These days I would not go with any 128meg card. The memory on a modern graphics card is faster than main memory and the more geometry and textures grow you want the card to handle as much of the load as is possible.

Unless you are going above 3.2GHz now or in the near future I would recomend the GT because the slower CPU's will bottleneck (slow down) graphics intensive programs (games)

I have had both ATI and Nvidia graphics cards in the lst round Nvidia dropped the ball with the FX cards. This time around I feel that ATI dropped the ball by under estimating how quick PS3 games would hit the shelves.

Are you serious or are you joking?

At VoodooPC (http://www.voodoopc.com/systems/advanced.aspx?t=2&p=450) you can already order one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

aminx, I have no idea http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
I have a 6800U OC it has a larger heatsince/fan unit than the GT model on top of the core speeds. It is possible to clock it over the speeds that is is at the moment, where as a GT can go nearly as high as an unclocked Ultra.

As to wether it is worth the extra $ it depends, I do a lot of 3D and the extra speed in refreshing the OpenGL of the 3d package is worth the extra. As I will be getting a faster CPU and memory as soon as the 3.5Ghz barrier is broken, and I am always upgrading my system part by part instead of getting a whole one every 18-24 months.

This is from the readme file inside the game.....

Video Driver Compatibility

NOTE: This only applies to users utilizing our highest graphic settings.

Please note that we use absolute latest bleeding edge technology for some of our features, and some of the features in Pacific Fighters are built using technology not yet used in any other currently available product. At the moment of Pacific Fighters going gold some new graphic features may not work correctly with certain versions of video drivers due to video card manufacturer bugs. You may encounter graphic glitches with these drivers.

NVidia:

Latest official driver version 61.77 is unstable and does not support 3D animated water.

So only now do I find out that my Aus$1,000 vido card does not show the water in 3D animated. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif
You work it out which one you want !!!!!!!!!

Maybe the 6800 standardt could be a good choice?
Overclocker cafe have made a test of it, and they could get 53 and 57FPS in Far Cry(1280x1024 and 1024x768).In DOOM3 they found 58 and 71FPS at those resolutions ,both games in high quality. Those games are not flight sims , but are very graphic intensive.
See the test at: www.overclockercafe.com (http://www.overclockercafe.com)

PS: The card tested are not overclocked.
