Like many of you I am a big fan of this movie. I was watching it again recently and I noticed that in one scene, a 109 was shooting at either Karel or Franta and the gunsight was offset to the left.

Now I am not criticising Jan Sverak or any of his team, but I wanted to know if the Ha-1112 or any 109 had the gunsight offset to the left. Was this poetic license? Could the pilot of this particular aircraft be left eye dominant? Or was this a case of the film being printed backwards a la 'Titanic'?

Just extremely curious. Any info anyone?

It's only funny til someone loses an eye....then it's hilarious

You didn't like it?

Why? Not a flame, just curious.

I like the CA-15 in your sig BTW. A shame the government, in their "wisdom" scrapped the prototype.

Yeah... I'd like to know about that gunsight myself.

The same question has been buggin' me since I saw the film ages ago. I guess I'll have to take some screenshots and look closely at the image to see if it has been inverted.

I don't know the answer to your question, but I thought it was a terrific film.

Anything with Tara Fitzgerald in it would get my vote though!

Yes, this film is not one form Sverak`s best, it was some kind of Pearl Harbour love story, just in other color (dark blue, probably...)... and without Brad Pitt of course or who played the pilot... Affleck?

But I`m sure, that all things showed in this movie should fit the history 100%, as Mr. Sverak is great detailist and perfectionist. I think he had a lot of people who helped him to make all historical stuff, even the historical correct gunsights. That`s what I think, I don`t remember them anymore.

But there is another Czechoslovak film about our pilots in RAF called "Nebesti jezdci" or Heaven riders. It`s very old film, from 1968, the historical stuff isn`t its strong point (Lancasters are just modified Li-2`s), but the story is great..

Dark Blue World is completely different to Pearl Harbour. I haven't seen any of the director's other films, but if they're half as good as this one, I'll have to get hold of them.

Sure it is different, but in my opinion not COMPLETELY, as you wrote - I just think, in both films is that "two pilots-friends and one woman" klishee present... Then some advanced computer graphics (cool) and a lot of history. Mr. Sverak just wanted to make a hollywood style movie, which he did succesfully... unfortunately. Actually, all his previous films (e.g. Kolya) are much better.

I just say the same as film critics - both films used the same scheme.
