You really should post some pics of your work again.

Some folks here have definitely not seen your jackets and would like to

When you had a thread about this last year, I had promised to post some pics of the only A-2 I ever painted, and it never happened. It's not nearly as good as your work, but this weekend, I'll get a pic of my 'China Doll' jacket up, for-real, it's bugged me for over a year I never did that http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I do or was gonna do something similar using old Aircraft skins i replace....... but i got bored with it, this was hand cut and filed to shape and rivetted a bit more to give it some detailing................... I was going to partially add the P51 model stencilling on the left side, but as said i got bored http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

YOu guys had to bring this up.... I put this on a YAK 5 a couple of years ago. It is supposed to say pretty woman. I also put some numbers and Stars on it plus the pilots name. The nose art is on both sides.

Yes, it is. I've been told that they are slightly different from the ones they made in WWII, but it's also my understanding from the spec the USAAC listed, that there were no hard and fast rules for things like jacket pocket flap shapes and collar points, color, actual leather (both of mine are goatskin), stitch pattern, etc, so how the 'experts' can cooly point out shortcomings as if they are obvious is beyond me. Looks like a '30s-'40s A-2 to me http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif The Cooper is a comfortable jacket, my other one is simply my summer weight leather jacket. If you get a Cooper, you might want to get it slightly large. All I've ever had to do to mine is oil them twice a year. My 'regular wear' A-2 has some slight wear now on the front side panels, I've been wearing it since '93 I think, since the one I painted got cut in either '91 or '92, and I replaced it almost immediately. It was probably the best Christmas present I ever got when I opened that box- they were just then available, I think my folks ordered it through the Smithsonian magazine ad. They still look great even though it's basically a 65 year old style http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

TOAD-

I used acrylic. The hobby store I bought the paint at swore it wouldn't last. That was in 1998, and I've worn the jacket out to various places maybe a dozen times. I think the bigger problem is the leather drying out under the paint, rather than the paint peeling- mine looks like the day I painted it still

I'm told the Eastmans are really nice

For the artwork, how about Wild Bill Kelso's jacket from the movie '1941'?

i only own cooper and eastmans myself
[i used shoe color paint on mine ]
my only reason for asking about the
flightsuits A2 was cos they`re so much
cheaper than eastman, but they do look good!

I've been told 1 Shot lettering enamal works well on leather, though I have never tried it myself. But it works well on just about everything else I have painted if thinned with the right product (turpentine works well in my experience). But you have to remember I do this for a living and have painted anything from poly hardhats to sides of very large buildings. I will have to test it on some supple product, but the thing that will ruin a paintjob of a flexible material is if that material stretches (I have learned this the hard way). The only other problem is if there is a chemical in the material that causes the paint not to dry. Polyetholene will cause this, so the substraight has to be specially prepared to accept the paint. But heck I have enough paint on shoes to think that leather will accept it fine.
