I was just wondering with tail configuration the B-17 will have.
The Stock tail:

Or the Cheyenne Tail Modification:

I've wondered the same thing....the Cheyenne mod. seems easier from a modelling standpoint....

The stock tail will be included because it sticks out more just like in this picture.

that is a damn NICE pic!! Trying to take off with a full load should be an adventure (heck, trying to take off with a H111 with NO load is adventure enough).

Uh, that door's just about perfect. I was on the Collings Foundation's B-17G "Nine-o-Nine" back in June and I had to take my backpack off to get out that door, because it was so small that I couldn't get out with my pack on by scrunching my shoulders OR turning sideways.

Stenciled on the side of my Dora:

"Lasst das H√¬∂llentor √¬∂ffen, es friert hier oben!"
("Leave the gates to Hell open, it's FREEZING up here!")

Zeno's Warbird Theatre

http//www.zenoswarbirdvideos.com

has an excellent set of training videos, including both ground and flight ops for the B17. It shows just how small that side door is; they've got to swing their legs up and in to get into it. Now that's an airplane they can't say they don't have enough cockpit information for!

what did this mod do for the plane? better visibality?

The side door is too small as shown. It should be 1/3 the width of the panel wide - not so in the posted pic. The doors window glass is also too small. The door is also not tall enough - should be almost to the mid point (vertically) of the side gunner's window, and to the the lower panel line (which is lower than the trailing edge).

Can't be seen, but there should be 2 grills beside and behind the 4 inner air slots on each wing. Are they missing, if they are, because of the poly count?

All in all, a good model and even better with some tweeking.

Original tail was cheaper, polyon wise. The Cheyenne gun would require a more rounded tail, and rounded glass.

If you notice anything wrong with the mesh or texture like the door (and there are many, I assure you), be so kind to send a email to fennec@shaw.ca so I don't forget to fix it. Thx.

Will the glass above the radio room and in the ball-turret remain black?

Fennec, can you post more views of your B-17G so we can critique it, please.

It is understood that there are poly count limitations.

Also what drawings did you use?

Do you need drawings of the l/g retraction geometry?

Of other interest, the XB-38 using Allison V-1710-89 engines mounted in a B-17E airframe had better performance specs than the E.
