Do you think it will be possible to launch a torpedo with the XXI without using the periscope ?
Are the S-Ger├┬Ąt (Nibelung, active sonar) and GHG (passive sonar) fully operationnal ?
I would be curious to see the active and passive sonars screens !!!
If anyone who already has the game could do that....

thanks

They said so, and it was in real life.

Since it was never used in combat it is hard to say. When the RN sank that Argentine Cruiser during the Falklands War, the Captain confirmed his Firing Solution through the periscope.

I doubt whether firing by sonar in 1945 would have been very effective.

Werner on the type 21

"no i have never had the pleasure."

We arrived in the bow torpedo room. Six tubes, instead of the conventional four, extended into the large compartment. Special storage magazines for 14 spare torpedoes were located alongside the hull.
"We charge all tubes hydrolically within ten minutes," Siegmann explained. "We push a few buttons and all goes very quietly. We dont touch the torpedoes anymore."
The compartment was equipped solely for storing, servicing, and reloading the torpedoes; the crew, which on old boats slept crowded together among the steel fish, lived in a roomy compartment of their own. Officers' and petty officers' quarters were like first-class staterooms on a passenger liner. The boats displacement was nearly three times that of U-953.
Siegmann continued, "You will be astounded to hear that we are faster below surface then above, and can maintain a top submerged speed of seventeen knots for quite some time."

"Then you can revive the convoy battles from a submerged position."
"More then that. We are not only faster, we have more torpedoes and can shoot them at a depth of fifty metres without seeing the targets. We dive almost twice as deep as you with your old tube, and we run away from every pursuing escort with ease."
"That makes you practically invulnerable."
"Your right. The high speed allows us to attack and escape below the surface without detection. A new computer guidance system gives us one hundred percent accuracy of fire. Our new Scnorkel is managed pretty much the same way you handle your scope; it goes up and down quickly and permits faster recharging of the batteries. This boat is the total submarine."

Very exagerated and full of pre battle gusto but doesnt it really really make you want to get your hands on this first ever true Submarine.

Does me!!!

I dont see the point of your reply ??
Of course the modern warfare uses the blind attack.....hopefully the billions $$ nuke subs can attack another sub, a ship, a terrorist camp without raising the scopes !! IF they do not fight, they train !! dont worry...

In fact the XXI was designed to attack underwater like a real submarine. My question was just to know if the devs made their XXI like the real one or just like a faster VII. SH2 was a total disappointment for this point too.

I am very curious to see how is the active sonar window and how we will be able to set the TDC to fire on the targeted ship. But you will say....I will know very soon....I HOPE !! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
