View Full Version : DEMO Infected with Starforce... be warned

Got this screen after installing the Pro Cycling Manager Demo (developed/distributed by a French company) and trying to play it. No warning before installing, EULA says nothing about copy protection. What it says on the image below (in Spanish) when starting to play for the first time: "The application has been installed correctly. To complete installation, the computer has to be restarted. Continue? Yes-No"
Don't bother to say NO, SF is already installed, and sooner or later you'll have to restart. Now if that isn't mean? Ubi and SH3 look like nice little boys compared to this.
Anti-piracy protection on a demo...LOL. What will be next?

Someone needs to make a mod with the ships saying "Starforce" on the side, just to add that personal hatred factor into the game, be ready for a huge influx of 100k club submissions http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

What a truly outstanding idea that is... and maybe add a little pirate flag to the starforce ships!

I've seen this before on threads about demos being infected. Someone has to put a stop to these virus spreading gangsters, we can't rely on publishers as seen with UBIsoft themselves, there own support staff don't even know what SF is, so for all UBIsoft know SF could be the worst threat to computers since the millennium bug, they don€t know what it does or how it does it, what it destroys or what rights it takes away from the customer, they just bung it on your game with out a care because it might save them a few bob.

Swings and round-a-bouts. At least they are getting a taste of there own medicine with this EA business, show's them what it feels like to have something force upon you against your will.

If starforce is being installed with these demos with nothing stated about it then save the download and lets prepare a lawsuit.

This has gone far enough!

I will start a website and forums soon to gather our efforts.

Hey, I still don't like SF either, but it IS NOT a virus. It doesn't propagate. It doesn't have any means to do so. Yes, it's bad software, maybe even "malware", but to call it a virus, which it plainly isn't, is just fear mongering.

Unintelligent arguments against Starforce will be met by a lack of enthusiasm.

Anything causing intentionally malfunctioning of your system could be called a "virus". It doesn't propagate (sure of that?) If it's malware, it falls into the category of viruses, troyans, spyware, hacking and anything related to causing your system's instability. You are a StarForce fan, it's your right, and it's my right to be a SF hater. I like it when people expose their opinion, but keeping a perfect respect to the rest, like you do (sorry i missed that in some of my earlier posts). I suppose you never had problems with SF, you are lucky and i congratulate you. In my honest opinion (IMHO) you are not aware of what you have in your computer.

Actually, I think you'll find that eltea has every reason to dislike Starforce, but has an altogether more positive, intelligent way of seeking a solution. Some of you might learn something from him.

...and for the last time (as if you'll listen) it is not, and does not behave like, a virus. Carry on believing the myths if you want, it'll get you nowhere. Fast.

Ok. You win. Nothing more to say to deaf people. I give up! My fight against these hackers has finished, here and right now! I have no need to continue arguing against something that has such big fans like you. Makes me think YOU are the pirates, YOU pirated my system, YOU made me angry, YOU (Antrodemus and people like you) YOU are the cause of all my (and other people's) problems, by supporting a bunch of HACKERS. NO VIRUS? OK. NO TROJAN? OK. BUT THEY HACK!!!!!!!

Carry on... as I know you will.

"Carry on believing the myths is you want, it'll get you nowhere."

Carry on believing the myths is you want...?

My, my....do I discount all of your idea because you've made one small insignificant mistake?

No....I don't.

Yet you try to sluff off an idea because of the same type of insignificant point....a virus self propagates.
Well, your right about that particular insignificant point, but 'Malware' doesn't....but other than that, it's the same as a virus. And before you repeat your previous false statement....your wrong.....Starforce WAS made to 'harm programs' on your system. It was made to harm liberal CD/DVD burners, and virtual drives....and any 'Starforce designated' "Hacker Tools" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif...dameon tools, alcohol..etc on any unsuspecting users system.

And it technically DOES propagate itself....through people like you Antrodemus...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif...an obvious 'carrier' of the disease.

I bet you'd like us to not be so 'loud' about our dislike of this malware. Keep it quiet, and never speak badly of 'Starforce'. Maybe usher us loud ones away....into one little forum, where others won't hear the bad things we have to say....a gulag maybe http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif.
Sorry.
I hate it, and 'anything' that is forced on gamers that does such malicious damage to a system and causing it's operator unnecessary grief. Stealing 'time' and 'money' from thousands. Causing untold amounts of grief to computer operators not up on it's sly ways. Pretending to be harmless. Denying it's malicious actions, at first, until obvious to all, then pretending to try to correct so called 'innocent mistakes'.
All this is an obvious ploy to gain time, while being installed on numerous other games, by unsuspecting game distributors....thus getting paid for their malware.

TGIF....you got this weekend off?.....lol...

Just wondering....how many people own computers who do not have access to the internet, but installed a 'Starforce' game on their computer.

And now have no idea what is wrong with their DVD/CD burners, CTD's, etc...etc....

They uninstall the game....but still have 'Starforce' and their 'hidden drivers'....and their grief goes on....and on...and on....http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif.

Nice move Starforce http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif.

What about the stealthy virus that hides itself waiting for a certain time and date to diliver its payload that payload usually being something distructive. So whats the difference SF dilivers a distructive payload but gradully over a period of time.
And it does propargate, I doupt that there is one copy of Silent hunter 3 that has not been infected by the SF virus, its spreading that rapidly it has already infected 10/20 other games.

It wont change till someone brings legal action against them€¦it aint BS if StarF***er prevents me from using my legally purchased CDRW€¦this hasn€t happed to me yet, I€ve not needed to back up my data yet€¦but if it do€s! I€m not going to be a happy camper and I will seek legal advice! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

As Ant pointed out Sam, I am not a fan of Starforce whatsoever having sold the game due to my objections over its covert installation as you can see in this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/6741048423). However, as a researcher in the field of computer security, I can assure you it isn't a virus. I said it could "maybe" be called malware, but that usually implies malicious intent. The only duplicity here is that UBIsoft, not SF, failed to tell us of the third-party installation.

Yes, SF appears to be buggy. However, I think it is pretty clear that it wasn't written with the intention of interfering with people's systems. Those problems come from poorly written software, not malicious intent. That just makes it bad code, not a trojan, backdoor, or spyware.

However, I think your estimation of SF as "hackers" is correct as they do seem to have hacked away at Windows and the available hardware without a full test suite or proper dubugging before the product was used. In my view, they are not a professional company.

In any case, blaming Ant and others is clearly not the solution. How did they do anything to you other than disagree?

instead of sitting there WHINGING like OLD WOMEN, try and think of something POSITIVE that will either PISS THESE STARFORCE A*SEWIPES off or something humourous to make us laugh... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif
there are other threads for this kind of whinging rubbish.

Im sorry but again it seems that you have made a fool of yourself.

There is no proof of physical violence in this post it seems as usual you and others consider us violent.

I will not even try to explain cause the stick is far too up.

Ok, name it as you want. Virus, malware, what you want. The fact is that it may cause damage to your hardware and it installs unauthorized nor prevously warned software/hidden drivers. That's what you got to point.

The frustrating part here Ant, is being on the rational part of the anti-SF debate, but having your entire argument tainted by conspiracy theories, accusations without proof, bad language, and l337 speak.

On the other hand, it's all kind of amusing.
