I finally sunk my first passanger liner after playing this game for months.

It was in a convoy that was in grid AM52 where I was hanging around in October of 1939. My game slows down whenever there is a ship nearby and it slows down to a crawl whenever there is a convoy so that kinda alerted me to the fact something big was out there.

I spent awhile looking around for the convoy, diving and listening, then surfacing and sailing around for a bit then diving again. I finally heard the sound of warships so I set course for them. I soon saw them and then got close enough to identify what kind of ships were in the convoy.

I saw about 3 troops transports, a T2 tanker, a T3 tanker, a passanger liner, and a number of C2's and coastal merchants. I launched two electric torpedos set to go off under the keel of the T3 but they both failed to go off. I then set my sights onto the passanger liner. I only had two steam torpedos loaded so I fired a spread of two at the liner. She saw them coming and slowed down and started to turn so that the first torpedo missed but the second one detonated under her keel near the front of the ship. I was disappointed and didn't expect her to sink though and that was my last loaded torpedo. I then noticed that the escorts were coming for me so I crash dived down to around 100 meters where I spent about 10 or 15 mins dodges depth charges. Some got close enough to rattle me around a bit but did no damage. I dove deeper and managed to get away.

I then noticed the "ship destroyed" message so I went to external view and saw that the passanger liner had sunk with only one torpedo.

She sunk in shallow water and it kinda reminded me of Titanic the way she was sticking up. I'm at school at the moment but i'll post some pictures when I get home.

In a convoy? Are you kidding? Is full of fresh troops and suppoly for the front! Sink it and leave no survivors! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I never kill innocent (virtual) women or children. So I would never attack a (virtual) cruise liner. I have a clear (virtual) conscience. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I got a computer class during 2nd block but the teacher hasn't given me anything to work on so I just do whatever I want to pass the time.

Here's how she sank:

That's one big SOB, when you compare her to the "K├╝stenschiff" and the Liberty (i think) in the background. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I think I can see (virtual) dead holiday makers floating in the water. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

Jose.MaC is right. Ocean Liners in convoys during WWII were not transporting holiday travelers. That would have been a waste of wartime effort and resources.

The fact it sank with one torpedo tells me it was probably carrying munitions and troops. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

They dont call it war for nothing. Besides who would go on a cruise in that neighborhood during a war. especially Uboat infested waters. common sense should tell you "no". so its their fault if they went on vacation and i sank their boat.

Hey, maybe it was cheaper to book a holiday on a cruise liner in the middle of a war? Can you imagine all those (virtual) poor people who didn't have enough (virtual) money to afford to go on one? Maybe it was an orphanage ship, full of (virtual) poor orphan children sailing for a better life....can anyone else see a teddybear floating on the water?

So you found the convoy cheat. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Im not suprised. In 39 electric fish are highly flawed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
P.S I dont think its 39 because the Liner is armed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Still waiting for mine, all the ones I see are neutral http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

It was 1939. Started my career in 1939 and this was my third patrol. I was surprised it was armed also. The troop transports were armed also. The merchants were not though.

I was about to comment on neutrality but that shot clearly shows that it was British... Grrr

I want my Liner, not one in a port, I want to intercept one and blow it to bits, taking thousands of (virtual) soldiers with it.

Nah..

Those Liners are full of soldiers..

I have never seen nothing big, only T3's and few cruisers.. over 60 patrols.. (3 careers)

ohh, i've done it again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I was hanging out in the same place this time. I was waiting for days on end without a single ship or convoy in sight. The game slows down so I dive and listen. I hear ships to the west of me so I surface, change course, and set flank ahead. I dive again and hear lourder noises in front of me. I surface once more and set full ahead towards them and was about to dive once more when my WO suddenly calls out "Warship sighted!".

I wait awhile to see what direction the ship is going and when I finally see the general course of it, I go to periscope depth and wait for the convoy. I see it and it's the same type of convoy that my first passanger liner was sunk in. This time though, I manage to first disable the T2 tanker. I then hit the passanger liner with two torps that go off under her keel.

By this time, the escorts are heading in my direction pinging me the whole time. I'm pretty close to the sinking passanger liner so i'm kinda scared it's gonna hit me. See below:

http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/7567/sh3img41220051446595151zr.jpg

She doesn't hit me on her way down to Davey Jone's Locker but now the escorts are going after me so I gotta do something so I head over to the disabled T2 tanker and decide to hide near it. The escorts circle, firing star shells, but never get close to me.

http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/3505/sh3img41220051454385312wa.jpg

They leave soon after and I sneak away. Later I come back and sink two troop transports. After that, I only have one torpedo left in my aft tube so I leave the convoy and sink a lone C3 on my way back with the torpedo and some help from my deckgun.

"MUST... NOT... EXPLODE..."

You lucky... SOMETHING!!! Argh... I see people meeting BBs, carriers and liners in drowes, I want some too.

Good shooting btw, two fish for a Liner is a good trade, very good.
