Just left Brest on a new patrol and encountered a T3 and small tanker cruising together. Lined up the T3, fired 2 torps and switched my attention to the small tanker, turning away and firing a stern torp. 3 hits. The small tanker burst into flames but when I checked the T3, expecting to see it floundering, it was sailing off at 13 knots as though nothing had happened. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

I sent a couple of homers after it and gave chase. The homers both hit it's a$$ and the effect? 2 big splashes! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif It continued at 13 knots. I passed it to port and turned in, firing another 2 torps, 1 more splash and a dud, fired another 2, i splash, 1 miss, fired the last 2, 2 more big splashes. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

The ^%$&&$#* thing had absorbed 8 torpedo explosions and carried on at 13 knots with no signs of damage.

That was IT! The red mist came down and I risked my gun crew on deck in pretty heavy seas, instructing them to strap themselves to the gun. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif They fired ALL 40 AP shells into it at about 150m, no visible effect, (the only smoke coming possibly from a crew member taking a smoke break on deck). Ignoring the incoming MG fire, we started pumping HE into it. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Finally! Some fires started on deck which grew rapidly and she blossomed in flames and went down! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Message sent to BdU: "Torpedoes expended, tally 2 tankers, am returning to base despite only sailing a few hours ago. No promotions, medals or renown expected but nurses flowers should still be fresh. Please have base psychologist standing by, Kaleun desperately needs treatment!" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

That one is what I call a SUPERtanker. Similar thing happened to me with a C-class destroyer, I used upp everything I had on it but the destroyer sailed away with no turrets left and me bopping around there on the surface with nothing left. I guess the sim can come into this state sometimes. The thing is I had a save file and the C-class was just as sturdy 3 reload/replays in a row and then I gave up.

Sounds similar yesterday i tryed to sunk one t3 tanker i fired all my 4 last topedoes whit no succes all i saw were big blashes when they hit the tanker so i surfaced and started to hammer it whit my deckgun it took all my AP´s and HE´s i was so despered that i had to use these Star shells well i had one of them left from my last night convoy attack and i took the last shot by myself right to the tankers a$$ and i was almost throwing my keyboard to wall and i heard this warming yell from my crew member she´s going down! Ahh it was hilarious to see some kinda succes after all. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

This is the Rub Mod ??.
I took a chance and fired a torp at a tanker doing 15 knots, missed, so surfaced to give it a lesson for going so fast. i pummelled the engine compartment with all AP's, and spread the 80 or so HE's all over the deck and waterline, until it finally agreed to stop dead in the water.
no sinking here, so I crawled up next to it to have a look. It was loaded with oil barrels like those modern container ships but the damage was minimal. A final 2 shots sent it down.

Enquiry findings: Rub has made either the 88mm shells too in-effective or the ships to tough. This ships should have burnt or died with about 20-30 shells max, carrying such a volatile load.

Thumbs down to this. I gonna mod this to something sensible. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gif

No RUB, just a few eye-candy mods. It seems that occassionally, a ship is spawned without it's damage modelling, fortunately very rare. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

I've only encountered it once before in a previous life (career), with C3's in an arctic convoy: arctic convoy from hell (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/3201064543/r/3201064543)

Nah, I swear the T-3's are the hardest to sink...I spent a good afternoon once in the Carribean sea slowly launching torpedo after torpedo into a floundering T-3. Even when you go for the engine/fuel bunker area they just float

...after awhile I thought I saw some of its crew playing volleyball on the deck?!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

...and all the while, liberators would rain (and I mean RAIN) down depth charges every 15 minutes...

...The whole scene was surreal with a lot of action...and me sitting at 15 meters...waiting for my torpedo crew to load the next torpedo.

One fish just after de middle superstructure set at magnetic impact, 12 meters seems to be enough for me most of the time

No two ships are the same it seems. I assaulted a convoy in 1941. Took out the escort and began shelling the ships.
The T3 exploded after sustaining no more than three HE hits to the foredeck!

I hate to make you Jealouse but I just joined the 29th in the Med, 1st patrol I met a smallish convoy, I approached submerged but like a moron i forgot to lower my snorkel and the Med being the med, the sea is like glass http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif, so a Hunt II DD catched my scent and charges at me. I fired two fish at its bow but the first was a T1, it saw the wake trail and dodged it, the 2nd was and electric which it failed to spot and it detonated under the Hunts keel - sinking it jut 700 meters away from my sub.

The best part of this story? A few mins later ihear another explosion, my Steam torpeedo (T1) after missing the DD had carried on toward the convoy and slammed right in to (you geussed it) A T3 Tanker - over 4000 meters away http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif, and the icing on the cake? It hit the fuel bunker and sunk it instantly...

RuB significantly lowers the amount of damage of the deck gun.

While it can take two torpedoes or more to sink a T3, I usually only fire one at them, if there is the prospect of picking them off later. If the weather is bad, then I want a sure kill and fire two at them.

My favourite technique is to get in close, I mean really close, 350 metres or so. I aim at the engine room. A hit there either sinks it or stops it. If the sea is obliging, I will use a keel shot with a magnetic pistol. In such a manner I was able to sink three T3's from a convoy with only three torpdoes. However, the odd time you do encounter one of those tankers from hell, made out of titanium.

I keep hearing these tales of people experiencing "cheers" or "She's going down" when they've torpedoed a ship. I only get "torpedo treffor" or whatever it is in German. I've tried most available sound mods, but it's always the same. Dunno.

The cheers are only in the english sound files. There is a mod out there by EAF274 Johan that enables crew cheers in the German dialogue speech.

Ah.thanks HW. It wouldn't occur to me to try the English crew speech. After all the subtitles give it all away.
I tried the English crew speak once but they had American accents which spoilt the atmosphere somewhat, well, severely.

You're right, the crew voice option choice should have been..."American midwest"

"Enemy ship spotted sir!"
