View Full Version : Can we have a method of selecting which joystick to use

as the title says really http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I have a force feedback steering wheel and a force feedback joystick, but IL2 1946 insists on using the wheel as the default input device and sends all force feedback response to it.

The only solution appears to be to disconnect the wheel, which is at best inconvenient and at worst downright annoying if I forget to do this before the game loads.

Other games have a selection box which allows the user to choose their joystick, so can we have something like this in IL2 please, even if it involves manually editing conf.ini ?

You can still set control axis to secondary controllers using the ingame HOTAS section. I have CH pedals and they seize ID0 by default, I can still fly just fine with my X52 after re-setting the bindings ingame.

What you can't use is the in-game axis sensitivity controls. For that use IL2 Stick which you can find at www.airwarfare.com (http://www.airwarfare.com)

but... when I set the hotas controllers to the secondary inputs, il2 still vibrates my wheel instead of my joystick unless I disconnect the wheel first.

I've not tried at il2sticks or IL2-JoyControl yet (I'm at work now) but as far as I can see they wont allow me to choose which controller the force feedback is sent to

It's been awhile since I've disconnected/reconnected controllers, but IIRC try not just disconnecting the wheel, but disconnect both controllers reboot, then connect the joystick, reboot then connect the wheel. I've seen many times the controller ID be reassigned as a result of this. It may give you the ID1 where you want it.

Hope it helps.

I went even further than that and uninstalled and reinstalled 1946 after uninstalling the wheel and rebooting the PC, but as soon as I reconnected the wheel it took over id#1

I started this thread as a result of being told in an earlier thread ( here (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/8521058735?r=9221079735#9221079735)) that il2 cant select the joystick, hence this request. Since then, I've found a little utility called joyids from here (http://www.wingmanteam.com/latest_software/gadgets.htm) which claims to be able to reassign the joystick id's which I'm going to try tonight.

I'd still prefer to be able to choose the stick in IL2 though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Let us know if the joyid program works. I find it unbelievable that XP makes it almost impossible to change ID order.

It's true though, unless someone knows something I don't, there is no way to change controller ID, I've tried. You just have to work around it.

Unfortunately I have to agree with you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I've tried joyid but it made no difference whatsoever. , so I guess I'm stuck unless il2 is changed. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Tis a pain to be sure, but what happens when you click ADVANCED and select your stick (rather than your driving wheel) as your preferred device? Like in this image.

it doesnt work - il2 always selects the steering wheel

Really? That is surprising. Others have mentioned that this did the trick.

That method hasn't changed the ID preference for me either. Does the Vista operating system allow changing ID order?

Yep.
That's the one and only solution.
Too bad.

Any way to switch off the power of the Wheel?
