View Full Version : Tarant victories

I was flying the Russian fighter campaign with I-16. Since kills didn't seem to come too easily, I applied some more sophisticated methods. Having run out of my ammo with chasing a Stuka and despite my efforts the enemy plane was still flying I decided to RAM on it.

I managed to score a kill and I survived the event too.

Then another time and another battle I was again without ammo... Picking up another Stuka I rammed it too but this time I didn't get a kill on my credit.

It seems that a Tarant victory applies only if I have fired the plane with my machine guns first.

And of course I must not lose anything except my wing in the attempt.

i tried that once too, i think it also works with the engine, the ai doesnt seem to be able to fly without the tip of one of their wings http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

I believe if your bullet is last to touch a plane and then it goes down, you get the kill.

Hmm when i get out of ammo and try to ram a plane i get blown up -.-

But yeah i'm an pacific fighter and those planes aren't very strong to play bumper cars with http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I had very much fun one time sawing tails off with my propeller. Sometimes the propleller isn't even damaged! And sometimes it happens accidentally of course.
I'd like it if the falling parts that have been shot off of planes would be able to damage your or other planes. I have flown through shot off wings tails etc so often that it isn't funny anymore.

if you can get your vertical stab to cut through the wing of the other guy, he will loose the wing but you will still be able to fly! without a rudder of course. i like doing that to c-47's when i run out of ammo. its harder against fighters though.

I have never heard the term "tarant victory". I googled it and came up with people's last name and such, and 'tarant' is not a word in any dictionary I have tried. I have heard much about ramming, especially the Soviets doing it. But never called that!!

I've always known it as Taran (no t).

The word 'Tarant' is Russian.

I searched for this forum before I started this thread and I found only one post where the word was used.

Il-2 is a Russian game and therefore Tarant sounded appropriate. There was about 400 Tarants made by VVS pilots during the Second World War.

Try a forum search using "taran" instead of "tarant" and you will find quite a few posts on the subject.

Upon thinking about it for a while, I can now understand why the Russians resorted to such tactics. If the real world VVS planes had as little ammo ( especially Yaks ) as we have in the game, then they'd just about have to. The poor pilots were no doubt running out of ammo too quickly!!

their plane has to hit the ground before you do to get the kill

I've been damaged or even killed by pieces of planes hitting me. I-16s have a nasty habit of exploding in my face and destroying my engine when I shoot them at close range.

I was flying a Stuka and after dropping my bombs I saw a U2VS. I kept making passes at it without doing much damage until eventually I smashed my wheels off against his tail sending him down to earth and getting me a kill.
