V stands for fixed wing. F stands for fighter aircraft, A stands for Attack aircraft. So VFA means fixed wing fighter/attack airplane=F/A-18 Hornets. Or as the Navy calls em Stirkefighter. VMFA is for Marine strikefighter, so therefore VA is fixed wing attack/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif ld A-6 Intruder/A-7 Corsair II, VF is fixed wing Fighter=F-14 Tomcat. VS is fixed wing Antisubmarine = S-3 Viking. VAW is fixed wing early warning = E2-C Hawkeye. VAQ is fixed wing Tactical Electronic warfare=EA-6B Prowler. Then you get into the HS.....Helos. And those all go a big Grey thing called an Aircraft Carrier...lol. Those are CV's or CVN.. Carriers of Fixed Wing Aircraft. Oh yeah, there are LPH'sand LHA's too.... they carry AV-8B's and H means it carries Helo's too.... With 20 years of experence in the Navy you will know all this too...Haze Grey and Underway...../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
