I still have a year left and there will be sticks still on the shelves.

I am wondering if i need to start stockpiling MSFFB2's for the future though. It's a dam good stick. Too bad the buttons wear out (if you are a hardcore gamer like me).

Unfortunately, this also points towards a decline in games that require joysticks, specifically flight simulators. This means that our selection of flight sim software will decrease as those companies interested in developing flight sims will possibly turn to other media. I'm sure game companies have read this article with some interest. Am I wrong? I hope so.

Put down the crack pipe Locust, the FFB2 is by far the best joystick out there for FFB and rugged design. Not just in my experience but everyone else I've talked to who bought one after their Logitech broke.

Anyway, I guess this means we'll be seeing more versions and offshoots of the "Sims" to keep grandpa and grandchildren amused over the coming years. It's funny how the masses don't require or even want quality as long as they just have to click the left mouse button to get by.

Shame.

I have a Sidewinder 3D Pro El Cheapo flight stick.

Been beaten, thrown, dropped over and over, covered with an inch of dust and subject to hundreds of hours of drunken abuse. And I bought it used.

Still works. Going to buy another just in case.

Have used MS sticks for about 3 years. Broke the first (ff1), and MS replaced under warranty with FFB2. That stick wore out in about a year, and had 3 yr warranty. They replaced that one with new FFB2. Wonder if they will honor their warranty (still have about 2 1/2 years left) when they stop making them, and this one wears out. These sticks are, imho, one of the best on the market. They are tough (except for the buttons). and very easy to program. It's a shame that they want to discontinue a good product like this, just because of low sales /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif .

I ordered the SWFFB2 from newegg.com for $69.

Never flown with ffb before so it should be fun-I think I'm going to try and hook up my hotas throttle quadrant also and have the best of both worlds /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I can't wait to try forcefeedback!

Do you have to enable it within FB?

I looked at the settings and readme and couldn't find an "enable" button /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I gave away a sidewinder joystick, and have two gamepads I've never used. If anyone needs to buy a couple of sidewinder game controllers let me know.

There really isn't much use for game controllers, except flight simmers like joysticks, (but flight simmers tend to avoid MS products), and some racing simmers like wheels and whatnot, but that's not a huge crowd, and very few people need a 'console' type gamepad for their comp, and when they do it's not usually for too long.

It's true I guess. Hardly any PC owners need anything but a mouse and a keyboard. Not enough demand for huge MS to bother maintaining a market share in I guess. MS corp is pretty smart. You can say what you want about their products, but the corporation makes money. If they are getting out of game controllers it's a good bet that game controllers is a bad business to be in. Although initially it might be boon to their competitors. It's intersting news.

Go to hardware options, then input, there you will find the button to enable force feedback. The strange thing is, I have to start my game (my joystick goes limp {no comments please}), then quit, then go to my sidewinder panel and hit properties and the joystick snaps back to life. Then I restart my game and the joystick works great (note that the joystick goes limp again but will now work properly in game). Was this way with IL-2 as well. It worked properly the first time I installed FB, but it didn't the two times I reinstalled.

if i ever need a new ffb stick and the ffb2 is not available ill be switching to non ffb. logitec ffb is a joke. the first time i brought it home i thought it was so bad it was broken. took it back and exchanged it for the same thing and found out that it wasnt broken it just sucks.

didnt someone say that ms was selling their sticks and gamepads to logitec though? if thats the case then maybe all we will have to deal with is a different sticker on it. or at least they will have the patent or whatever on how ms ffb sticks are built and can use it to better their products.

It's sad when the #1 selling force feedback joystick in North America quits because they aren't making money. I have bought 3 of them over the last 6 years at close to $100 a pop.

kyrule2 I don't know if this will solve your problem or if you are using the sidewinder software with XP but you aren't supposed to use the sidewinder software with XP. XP does not support it. It may or may not work with it but it doesn't support that software. I had to remove it from my XP system because it was reversed my spring force (on top of pyramid effect)

This is the tragediest news I ever heard since 911. Damn the marketers are evil. The MS FFB2 is the greatest stick I ever use, the rest of them I tried are really out of reach to its technology. I may shed angry to 911, but I turly shed tear too for Sidewinder. Sad to see such good thing to be abandoned.

Not necessarily. It might represent a refocussing
of Microsoft's hardware output only. They are currently
concentrating on the Xbox, which sells at a loss, and
maybe concentrating on this, plus competition at
the low end from Saitek and Logitech, and at the high
end from Saitek and CH means that it's just not worth
their while continuining to be in the joystick market.
After all, the Sidewinder range also covers a whole
slew of gamepads, not just joysticks.

There's no information to support the suggestion
that it isn't making money. That division of Microsoft
as a whole is losing money, however, due to the subsidised
cost of the Xbox, so it might be more true to say that
the Sidewinder range is not making _enough_ money in
that context.

I was considering gettng an FFB2 for my upcoming
