Start with a few identical carriers in line abreast. Place one plane on each carrier. Pilots must start their engines, throttle up, and release chocks on the "go, go, go". They then have to take off and land their planes on any other carrier, as long as it's not their own. The first person to land SAFELY, wins. Should be spectacular.

It'd be better if they were in a circle... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Another idea, combining navigation & racing. 12 carriers in a circle of radius 20km. You have to land on the carrier 4 to your left. The distance is just long enough that you have to make a judgement about climbing for increased TAS or just firewalling the throttle at sea level. Choosing the carrier fourth on your left makes following the circle a significantly longer distance than straight line navigation, and you can't just fly straight off the carrier deck and across the centre to the one opposite.

To mix it up even more, you could randomize the carrier orientation and run it as a coop with map icons off. They'd have to work out where they were on the circle before heading for their destination carrier http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

Maybe something else here that might be interesting:

I discovered that among the objects in the FMB there are 2 runways which are landobjects, but they also somehow function like a carrier deck, meaning: chocks work!

So for future air races, one only has to place a few of these runways next to eachother as a starting line.
