Some photos I scanned from a magazine I once bought called "Jet & Prop". I don't buy it on a regular basis and this is the only volume I currently own. It usually features photos submitted by readers from their private collection (like family photos from World War II) making a lot of the shots here "never seen before". I scanned the early war BF-109 section (and the Klemm).

Enjoy the scans. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The next scans will be about the early war FW-190s and BF-110s. There are also countless shots of Stuka's, Ju-88's etc. in here. Patience my friends, patience. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks so much for the photos!

I wish there was a photo of the Finnish Messer next to the Mig.

Also I laughed with the picture of the superstitious pilot taking a leak on the tailwheel! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I wonder what would have happened had that pilot peed on the Swastika. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Yeah thanks Christian!

It's always refreshing to see rare pics from private collections http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

BTW - the picture of the pilot peeing on his tailwheel is the only one i've seen before, in Osprey Bf109 Aces of the Russian Front (John Weal). The caption reads:

"Judging by the guilty smile, Major Karl-Gottfried Nordmann, Kommodore of JG51 'Mölders', is seen here carrying out a well-known pre-op ritual. But has he really been caught on camera in the act of watering the tailwheel - or is that small puddle behind the object in question the last vestige of winter's snow?" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

@cawimmer430

did you clear up the copyright protection with the publisher of Jet & Prop magazine before you post your scans here?

I didn't.

But I am not claiming that these are my photographs, I give credit where credit is needed and these shots are from "Jet and Prop" magazine. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Am I breaking some laws here? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Great to see pics of Finnish G-6s'.

Very rare. Espescially in. Pre-Capitulation guise.
Finland did not capitulate, but signed an armistice with the USSR. Actually the word capitulate would be regarded as something of an insult in Finland (I'm sure you did not mean it that way though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif).

The G6 was the predominant model in Finland, so I'd think pictures of them should not be too hard to find.

The strange thing about the picture is that it has the swastikas. The mark of the German cross painted over is clearly visible in the right wing. Is it absolutely certain, that the pictures depicts the same aircraft? It doesn't make sense to me to paint the swastikas (since these were converted into blue/white roundels after the war) back in the wings but leave the mark of the German cross visible.

I would guess that the picture was taken in early 70's in Utti after planes airworthiness restoration(it was then painted back to wartime colours) but before it was delivered to the Aviation Museum of Central Finland(Keski-Suomen Ilmailumuseo)in Tikkakoski. It would also explain the MiG-21F on the background, because it seems to have Fighter Squadron 31's(Hävittäjälentolaivue 31,HävLLv 31) Lynx-insignia on its tail(Both Transport Squadron residing in Utti at the time and HävLLv 31 were part of Karelian Wing).

As for the german crosses in the wings, they represent the situation at the time of delivery in 1944, when every plane was needed so there was no time to paint/equip the plane properly in all cases thats why they had no FAF green/black camouflage ever painted, most had german crosses visible in wings, some flew in german markings for a while, some had MG151 gondolas in wings, etc.)

So they painted it in a way that made it look like it had the German crosses painted over? If so, great restoration work! I new about the great haste to get the planes to action in the summer -44, I just didn't think they would have gone through all the trouble of making the plane look like it actually did back then.

In the biography of Hasse Wind there's actually a picture of a Bf 109 taking off at Lappeenranta in the summer -44 carrying German insignia.
