i saw a trailer thing for myst v a while ago and i think a thread linked it to me but i can't find it so maybe not. in any case seeing as i can't find it i'll have to make a new thread

anyway the point is in this trailer there was a definite shot of myst island in there (looking new and 3D)

does this mean we'll be revisiting it in myst V? i hope so! i doubt anyone can conclusively confirm or outrule this (although if you can please do) but what does anyone hypothesise or hope for?

I'd also like to revisit Myst Island. I'd like it to be years later, because then I could see how the island has changed. I wonder if the places of protection still work, and I'd like to see what the different buildings look like now.

We know for a fact that there is a Myst Book in the game, because it is pictured on the front page of the Cyan Web site and is in one of the videos of in-game footage. The Book is locked by a series of leather bands, but I don't think that Cyan would be so cruel as to give us a Myst Book and then not let us visit Myst Island. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The Myst Island we see in the trailer is clearly much older than the version we visited in Myst. The dock is gone, the ship is lying on its side, and the trees look pretty scraggly. So, it does look like we'll get to see signs of the decay that's happened since the island was abandoned.

Yes but then the Trailer was made by Ubi and is pretty much made up of content thats not in game.

Cyan may well put a book to myst there and not actually let you go there...its details..the book itself could be the original myst book the stranger finds to give you that Oooo moment we wont know until the release.

Actually, to clarify... what I got from RAWA was that, like the Uru trailer before it, the End of Ages trailer showed the game's content, but not in any way that would have been accessible in-game. The lofty camera fly-throughs and whatnot are obviously not features you could take advantage of during gameplay, though everything between the bookending Esher-dude animations is actually taken from the game engine. RAWA's comment was largely aimed at deflecting the complaints regarding Esher in the trailer. Thus, it seems rather likely that Myst does appear in the game, just not from that angle. The dillapidated look of the island and the fact that the sky and water appear much more detailed than they did in realMYST indicate someone at Cyan has been busy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif.

The dillapidated look of the island
Does anyone remember P.Y.S.T.?

Yup, it got lots of bad reviews.

That's because it was a really bad game... but I got the idea that that's what the creators intended. It's just interesting that Myst was so popular that it inspired another product satirizing it.

Back when the Tolkien saga first took off, the National Lampoon people gave the story a thorough send-up. Yes, it was hilarious. And yes, it dragged the hallowed Ring legend through the mud. Recommended reading, but serious Ring fans will be appalled.

PYST was similar, but was the work of a team largely derived from Firesign Theatre (http://www.firesigntheatre.com/).

"Bored of the Rings" was truly a great parody, written by the masters at National Lampoon. But it needed to be read soon after completing "Lord of the Rings", so as not to lose any of the subtle meanings and puns (although most were not so subtle). I still have my copy!

SPOILERS HERE
Okay so I have just completed it. Of course, like many Myst games I got the bad endings first! On the topic of Myst Island itself, the only version I had access to was dark, wrecked and raining. The effect was really great. But I'm wondering if it is at all possible to see other versions of Myst Island in the game? Did everyone else get the same version I did?
END SPOILERS!

Yeah it looks great in RealMyst. For whatever reason I never managed to get it to run on my XP machine...

well, you were able to hack uru and change relto (for example) to your liking, so it will be most likely possible to change mysts ambiance (And textures, and so on)
