I like the artwork on some of these kits. Always feel they show each aircraft in it's best light. Click on the thumbnails for larger pictures:

Hasegawa's Koike is, without doubt, the current greatest airplane painter.

I agree with the quality and background settings used on the art work for the model boxes. They always had that eye catching scene of action about them.

That Staff Car is the coolest airplane I have ever seen.

One of my favorites from Roy Cross of Airfix from 1969:

Two current items from the Czech MPM companies:

Thanks for that, LF. I had an interesting experience with the first Airfix Lancaster when I was 12. I and a friend loaded each engine nacelle with a firecracker, lit them, and gave it a mighty vertical heave. It sailed up to a dizzying height---and descended rapidly without the crackers blowing. We were sorely disappointed, but, about a foot from the pavement, all four blew---cunningly imitating a daisy cutter bomb. We were wiped out by shrapnel. REVENGE OF THE LANC!

Heh, heh... we went through a phase of stuffing large scale sailing ships with fireworks. How we weren't injured is a mystery to this day.

There was a small pond in the park near where I lived where we would float our ship models, and, when weary of them, play gunnery officer with small rocks. The bottom was like the North Sea after Jutland.

Superb Airfix Whirlwind lore there. I remember the original one---even though it was crude the beauty of the Whirlwind was obvious. Liked it more than Spitfires. I'm minded to have a try at the Planet Welkin. What an aircraft!
