There are two marker the left and the right. What do they mean? If there's a contact on readar what do i expect to see on the radar screen? Thx?
Does all radar(including the early one) have sweeping capability?

1. Not sure, but is not the radar you use to see in films.
2. No, early one is just setted to see your front.

When you look at the Radar screen, you'll notice two sets of numbers. Those are ranges. The Radar has two frequencies which you could adjust. Point your mouse cursor over one of the knobs on the radar, to see the different range settings.

When you get a contact, it'll show as a "spike" on the screen. The number where the spike shows up near, is the appx. range of the contact.

You must be sure that you read the correct set of ranges for the frequency mode the radar is in. If not, a contact that you think is pretty distant, is in reality much closer.

AFAIK, the Radar beam is very narrow, ~ +- 10Degs either side of dead ahead. It is not a phased array like we have today, but an earlier idea - a focused beam/lobe which extended out in front of the sub.
I've never picked up a ship on it... or for tht matter know how to operate it. I've never used it close to convoys as the signals might be picked up by escorts... then there goes my surprise visit http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif
