Link to info on "Hammy" Gray - last Canadian to receive the Victoria Cross.

Died this day - Aug 9 - in 1945 while attacking a Japanese ship in his Corsair.

Great info on a brave man.

I believe that he was the only VC of the war in the FAA.

The book on him is A Formidable Hero. It is excellent, but sadly I do not own a copy. (My library knows me well!)

Cheers Hammy.

From Trail, BC. My home town. There is a monument to him built in Onagawa Bay where his Corsair went in. It's the only memorial to a foreign serviceman in Japan.
