All eagerly anticipated and released in a storm of hype .'Modern' (20th Century) combat RTS games that fail to deliver in my opinion and leave me cold.
Why is it that the first RTS I tried the excellent Napoleonic era Imperial Glory has never been surpassed- even by Rome Total War and its younger sister in a much fancier set of clothes Medieval 2 Total War- the only 2 other RTS out of over a dozen Ive tried that I bother keep .
Admitedly World in Conflict is the best of the three mentioned in the thread title .Graphics are good ,reckon its the gameplay that lets it down for me...Nice immersive movies ...Is it Alec Baldwin who does the narration? But its always a bad sign when these 'movies' are made in such a way that they have no relation to the actual gameplay whatsoever.(Didnt a game released for the Christmas market a few years ago get in trouble for having adverts on TV with 'movie ' footage which was far superior to the ingame graphics?)
Anyway dont bother frantically downloading the 1.2 Gig demo as its just a 6-7 out of 10 ....Maybe it will grow on me but I dont think so...

Literally just seen that the new Total War game called Empire Total War will be set in the 17th Century and heavily sail ship combat and also musket and cannon land combat. Now Id prefer if this was set in the 18th Century but it still looks good to me !!!

..... if you're interested in Napoleonics, keep an eye on this game -

My friends and I have played the board game version of Empire & Arms for years. It is a CLASSIC.

I prefer tactical battles to strategic...however that does look interesting.I will keep an eye out for it.But some of the napoleonic games on that site -even ones not released yet- just look so primitive. That whole 'hex' terrain is not gonna challenge yer X1900XT very much...

HEX had its hayday. I simply loved the Panzer General series and still consider it one of the best strategy games series ever. But time moves on, and I am not intending to hold on to old habits just because I grow to old to adjust.

That said, I still wait for another decent strategy game not based on "rounds". Company of Heroes, World in Conflict are superb games to have a lot of fun with, but not exactly "realistic". I had high expectations in Theatre of War, but kinda got dissapointed in that.

No other pipe in the oven in this regard as far as I know, so the waiting goes on.
