Hello, fellow brothers of the assassiyoun and brothers-to-be.
I come once again from the land of the assassins to enlighten you with more information.
This time, it is about the mobile version of Assassin's Creed.

First off, the mobile version of the Assassin's Creed has recieved far less attention than its big brother on X360, PS3, and PC this february.
Yet, it's a good game nontheless, recieved well by fans who played and critics, IGN Mobile even praising it with an 8.0.
I am sure most of you never even knew that IGN had a mobile games division, and I still question its use.. But they can't surely be wrong.

The Story
The story is very similar to the console version of Assassin's Creed; there are just a few points that differ the console version from it's mobile spouse. First off, Al-Mualim - Leader of the Assassins in the console version - is now named 'Sinan' - Probably after Rashid al-Din Sinan, the original leader of the Assassins during that time. But then again, Al-Mualim could be Sinan aswell, as Al-Mualim refers more to a title of a man than a name itself. Second, Alta´r Ibn-La'Ahad is already stripped from his rank and has to assassinate eight key members in order to return a good amount of peace to the Holy Land. Who those key members are is both a secret to the player and Alta´r, but among those are William De Montferrat and Sibrand.

The Gameplay
Assassin's Creed Mobile handels like a 2D platform action game should; fast and innovative. It's pretty amazing what Gameloft has done with Assassin's Creed, seeing as how Gameloft is known for publishing some bad mobile games. However, built on the engine of Splinter Cell Mobile and Prince of Persia Mobile, this game is just plain fun. Expect nothing less than running up walls, silencing guards and using the environment to get to your target - just like the console version. Even the horse chases from one town to the next - Gameloft is doing some pretty out-of-the-box thinking for its title Assassin's Creed Mobile. What amazed me even more was that the mobile game actually had things inside that made me wonder why it wasn't inside the original console version - one of these features is the well-spoken crossbow, which is availible to Alta´r later in the game.

As far as controls go - Assassin's Creed uses the entire keypad to have Alta´r do his tricks. Rest assured - the controls are pretty intuitive, which reminds you to the 'puppet control' system built into the console version of the game. Alta´r can run up walls, roll around on the grond, crawl, blend in the crowd and even - yes, I didn't even thought it'd be possible - dodge and counterattack. Seeing mobile Alta´r in motion actually had me going 'wow' for a second, as I have never seemed to dodge an attack, then get up behind the enemy and slash his throat on a mobile. Pretty impressive.

The game does handle killing the key members a bit clumsy though, but that would obviously make sense as nobody would play a mobile game longer than approx. 10 - 20 min. That's why Gameloft implemented stages, so you can easily pick up where you left off.

The Graphics
Let's face it - the mobile version looks no where near the console version. But the solution Gameloft found by bringing the Assassins to 2D - which is a hard thing to do, mind you.. many developers seem to misstep this step - and creating crisp clear visuals, they rarely to never have you wondering 'what is that in front of me?'. A crate is a crate, an horse looks like an horse and a ladder looks like a ladder. Ofcourse, this is what you'd expect from a videogame - but mobile gaming has taught us that the most bad-looking games are currently released on the mobile genre. That said, Assassin's Creed looks fair - with an occasional beautiful here and there.

The Verdict
To be honest, I had fun playing the mobile version of Assassin's Creed. It had me remember the countless hours I had spent in the Holy Land, and even brought some new features to the table. Even though it is nowhere near the console version, it does manage to re-capture some key elements from the 3D version and translate that into 2D. And best of all - It generally plays like a mobile game should. Probably the only time I died was when I fell to death by my own miscalculation. That said, I think it's a treat to Assassin's Creed fans - at least until the DS version comes along. And for a game under $6, I had some good fun actually.

I made my friend buy this on her phone. It is pretty fun, actually.
Sometimes when Altair jumps up a wall, he clings to the ledge, & his little pixel legs kick around. Same when he is swinging on a rope & attacking at the same time. I laughed so hard.

IGn rated the mobile higher than the 360/ps3 game.
