View Full Version : Draw distance for ships in PF

Has anything been said about this? At present in FB:AEP a ship will only pop into view when you get to within 5km distance of it. That's 5km horizontally, altitude makes no difference, except for the fact that if you are at 2000m or more then the ship will appear under your nose or wing where you can't see it.
Aircraft, however, are visible at much greater distances (15km?).
So, in a situation that will require scouring vast oceans for a few ships, it would be nice if the ships were visible at the same distance as the aircraft at the very least, after all, they are rather a lot larger. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Good question.Draw distance is probably the biggest drawback (sry, couln't resist) to this game. There is such huge concern over "realism" in this sim yet the draw distance issue is seemingly overlooked. For "other" flightsims, scenery building programs such as Airport or FSSC allow you to manipulate the draw distance anywhere from 1 to 20 miles. You can see a radio tower or buildings or ships at a more realistic distance as opposed to having them pop up under your nose.I hope they did something about it in PF. Still,IL2FB and now PF are the best combat flight sims on the market. The draw distance issue is the only one true failing that I can see.I hope they improved on it.

An adjustable draw distance would be terrific. Games like Unreal Tournament 2004 have it, to improve FPS.

Reduced DD is a big helper for those who have lower end machines, but for those have a high end box with a top notch video card that can handle heavy poly draws, it'd be great to have the option to max out the draw distance and see everything out to the horizon on a clear day.

Considering the PTO is overwhelmingly made of water, I'm sure there will be plenty of processing power left over to render ships at proper distances.
