For the simplified version, scroll down.
Xerxes I of Persia wields a mighty Piece of Eden and abuses it to manipulate the minds of thousands and crush those who stand in his way.

Darius, Xerxes' son and Master Assassin, realizes that his father must be stopped.

In order to infiltrate Xerxes' palace, Darius needs a weapon that can be disguised as a wrist bracer.

Xerxes' ears and eyes (Spies) oversee Darius consorting with enemies of Persia. (secretly building the hidden blade)

Xerxes dispatches hundreds of soldiers to end Darius' plot.

Soldiers overthrow the small town in which Darius has taken refuge, killing everyone but Darius who managed to narrowly escape with the blade.

Darius makes his way to Xerxes' palace where he is arrested and imprisoned.

Xerxes requests that the prison guards leave so that the two can talk.

Xerxes gets too close and Darius stabs him.

Darius' work does not go unnoticed, thousands of slaves had been freed and the Piece of Eden is now held in Assassin hands.

It sounds pretty good...
But Darius was the father of Xerxes.
Besides, Darius took power in 521 B.C. And Assassin's Creed 1 takes place in 1191 A.D.
That's a timespan of about 660 years.
How do you want to go from Ezio (1500 A.D) to Darius/Xerxes which is like 2000 years earlier?

Xerxes had a son named Darius, and I assumed that that's what the statue in the sanctuary was referring to, seeing as Xerxes father was dead when Xerxes ruled. How do I go from 1500's to around 500 BC? Masayaf, Alta´r's home, is located in the middle east, the land much previously dominated by the Persian empire. I feel Darius could be related to Alta´r because they lived in the same general area, and were also both assassin's. Also since this timeframe is much earlier than the crusades, we could see deeper into the origins of the Templars and Assassins. Just a thought for a spin-off. Doesn't need to better every other game, I'd just love to see it discussed by Ubisoft.

Perhaps they will, but it wouldn't be a logic thing to go from crusades, to Italian renaissance and then go all the way back to the Persion Empire.

It's a timespan of about 1710 years.

Does it really matter which way we go with our timeline? I mean, Darius could be a direct descendant of Alta´r. I just think it'd be so cool to have a short yet sweet storyline in Persia. Have you ever looked at a portrait or statue and wondered what their life was like? Well this spin-off would simply relieve you of that curiosity. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And that's how good my math is... My teacher must be proud of me! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Somehow, I don't think people would relish moving backwards in time, because as you do so, technologies disappear. The hidden gun would be gone, the poison blade would be gone, the ABILITY TO RIDE A HORSE IN COMBAT would be gone (good stirrups, which allowed for enough stablity to swing a sword on horseback weren't invented until much later). I just don't think it's a good idea at all.
