View Full Version : Hardware specs for the new patch

Warbird-

I read somewhere that the new patch will possible demand more hardware resources.

Is it true, and do you think most people will have to change their graphical options to keep playing the game in an acceptable FPS?

The patch will demand higher system resources - this is due to a brand new, more realistic flight model being added to the game. Most of us consider this a pretty good trade-off.

How much of a hit? No way to tell, the patch hasn't been released yet. Don't panic, I don't think it'll be a huge problem.

If you're worried about your system specs, my suggestion for WHEN the patch comes out is that you wait a week before you install it and watch the forums. There'll no doubt be 50-100 threads on the new flight model, and within 1 or 2 of those you'll find some info that'll give you an accurate idea of the performance hit for your system.

If it turns out that you're borderline, the only thing I can suggest is an upgrade: staying patched to 3.04 will mean that you won't be able to play online. I'm probably borderline, but that's ok I've been saving for a new PC for the last year http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

On other sim sites some beta testers have been discussing the patch.According to them the hit from the new patch is miniscule.

As far as i can tell these are real beta testers. They have never been proved to be just pulling peoples legs and the discussions have included people who have actually worked with pf,ie modellers etc.

They have given out very few details.Except on the fps hit etc of the patch.

Niiiiiiice...

I'm gonna be lucky to get a 3.6GHz Prescott. Although I'm gunning for an Intel P4-extreme chipset. 1000GHz front side bus is too tasty to pass up ^_^

Mate, I'm a Queenslander - I like it hot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif
Hot like Foobs 'n' Steg shooting me down again, and again, and again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

- and when I don't I cheat by sticking a portable airconditioner right up against the open side of the case.

Just out of interest Dusta, what's the specs you're running for the WTE_DED server? I think I remember seeing a thread somewhere in the 2TG forums, but I'm lazy with the search function http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

look, heres the bottom line:

1C:Maddox will need to push the envelope.

Gone are the days of software genius that enables amazing bang-for-buck ratios.

Madness, yes MADNESS will grip the development team, pushed Postal over constant patch whines and crys of FM incompetance.

They'll abandon the accepted ideal of balancing machine capability with bleeding edge content to carefully nurture their customer base, and put together an update that will most likely viciously spank any processor currently on the market. Fans speeds will drown out the sounds of brows furrowing, trying to comprehend the rising crescendo of wind noise until great clouds of billowing black smoke will pour from pc cooling fans everywhere ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

i predict doom, gloom, fire, brimstone, blown fuses and mass blackouts due to the extra power required to cool systems worldwide.

If you spell 1c:Maddox backwards, it clearly spells Horseman Of The Apocalypse.

Be afraid people. Your pc will wither under the onslaught, and likely become a doorway to the Seventh Level of Hell due to the unmeasurable heat generated warping our reality......... you'll be lucky to survive.

Or then again, you wont notice the difference unless you play on a machine that was unsuitable for the original title, and no amount of paradoxial coding genius to deliver an improved genre leading sim experience on 5 year old machines could save you.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

EnGuarde, put down the coffee cup now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

From the whispers I have heard, the effect should be negligible. I'd guess those people with better graphics cards will notice it less, since they are already less dependent on CPU cycles. With an inproved FM, the CPU cycles will be hit.

It might be helpful for 1C to release updated specs now so people can start upgrading their machines if required.

hmmmm

ok, the general consensus is, however ignorant it may be to those in the know, was that PF was incomplete.

I think MAddox Inc. picked up on this vibe.

Do you think, that they would release a patch, to render an already beleaguered title hopelessly crippled on all but the highest end spec to oft antagonistic fan base????? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Thats like nicking your foot the first time, then working the slide once more and making sure you dont miss the second time round. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

relax, peoples, my highly educated never fail opinon is that all y'all will look kinda sheepish worrying about something 99% of people wont even notice.

and if you can only play at 15 frames a sec with everything turned off, and this update drops you back to 12, wtf are you thinking eh? *smacks hand acoss back of head* Go outside and do something rewarding ffs.

Not an expert myself on system specs, but hopefully I should still be up and cooking with a 64 bit processer, twin SATA hard drives, 1gb of ddr ram, and a nvidia 6600gt??

are the shiznit. You'll probably play BoB fine on that, although the video card will need bettering by then if you want muchos candida di eyo.

relax, go calm thy fevered brow with a nice cold beer. You'll do fine.

WHAT...

.... is really gonna bite me on the ar$e is if this update delivers truer FM physics than ever before by anything, but may actually impact cycles due to the extra calculations bayed for by the foaming mouthed self proclaimed experts....

AND

... they switch their collective b!tching to how "....its now virtually unplayable"

THUS

...we need guys with pickhandles and surprisingly distemperate natures to make house calls at 3am, if this situation comes to pass.

YOU

...cannot expect everything, and abuse those whom are doing a better job than anyone trying to give it to you when they actually manage to give you what you truly asked for..... especially when all the while you completely ignored the limits of technology they struggle with to deliver a wholistic package nonetheless, because you are too ignorant and selfish to understand what you really have.

The impact is minimal we're told. Whats your average FPS right now (say in a demanding online game?). If its smooth and very playable right now its probably not likely to change much...thats what were told.

If we ever get the addon/patch I suspect the cheapest hardware will be more than capable of running the game at full tilt.

ok, i know, i win for most posts on the one topic.

but, what about every other update?

i say again to anyone who cant reason this out for themselves... are they likely to kill their own sim with unrealistic load?

no.

has any other update to any of their sims resulted in quantum leaps in requirements?

no.

the worst thing Oleg did was say it might hit performance. I reckon he said it, viewing the arguments stemming from differences in patches and how... particular some people may be over just about everything.

has anyone stopped to think he may be hinting to some that his next era of sims, to give the public what it wants FM / DM wise, will need healthy specs, and not to expect him to code down to you but he can give so much more if you hardware up to him?

Imagine for a second, a sliding scale with average in the middle, poor system performance to the left, stellar to the right.

How much time do you want devs to spend on coding the ability for removing detail ie the far left of that graph, instead of working out tougher aspects of tracking bullet performance on airframes slammed hard up against the furthest right?

im worried im seeing too many Will It Kill My System posts. I want to see more "...... **** I'm Giving Up Beer / Friday Lunch Money / Creaming Soda / Vixen the Pole Dancer to afford that extra processor i'll need. It'll help keep my system young and avoid age related failures anyway. Its worth it. Ive invested so much now anyway, why stop now?"

anyway, ive never been a fan of too much backwards compatibility.

stunts growth.

everyone should be pushing performance growth, not dragged along by the hair screaming and whining.

and before anybody says it, no ive never been made of money, i just see the incredible value in growth for my chosen sim instead.

Ubi and Maddox clearly said there would the elusive "3rd CD", why would they say that if it was complete?

This is another Chicken Little thread,

The first rig I ran the original IL2 on was a AMD athlon 900mhz with a gf2mx video card and 256mb of ram.

A friend of mine is STILL using that same rig, with the addition of a GF2Ultra and 630mb of ram to run IL2/AEP/PF 3.04M smoothly at 1024X768 resolution at decent settings! And he WILL run 4.0 on it too I am sure, maybe with another stick of ram added or something, but he WILL run it and it will look fine.

Every expansion and pack that comes out we get the same threads just like this over and over and all for nothing. No one has to worry about a thing! S!
