I'm interested in joing a 109 Squadron. Only reason i haven't so far is because i found in other games, playing online was LAME!!! I was playing Medal of Honor, and rather than people getting together and playing as a group, it ended up being a free-for-all, with everyone blowing each other away, and then after dieing, getting recycled back into the game again.

I've haven't played any game online recently, mainly becasue i have a dial-up connection. I'm getting that DSL thing in a couple of weeks...would that be okay? Right now i have a 1.3ghz Celeron with Geforce 4 mx, and about 600MB or RAM...should i bother? or am i kinda out of luck with the on-line gaming stuff?

Do squadrons get together and fight against others, are there actual "goals" of these combat missions?

Any info would be great!

Thanks!

Check out http://www.ironskies.net

There are many squadrons on both sides and it is purely mission oriented. Our site is at http://www.jagdgeschwader1.com and if you are a mature pilot with interest in learning proper combat tactics and fighting as part of a group definitely check us out.

FB is nothing like a FPS. There is usually good cooperation/communication among squadmates.

Your system should be fine for online play. Even dialup is doable, though broadband is highly recommended....give it a shot--you will be hooked.

I never found it hard to fly with the key board...except twisting the keyboard to get the rudder to move http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_redface.gif I have broke 3 o them already, guess i need a better keyboard.

if ur interested go to http://www.jzg23.de and have a look round the site. we also fly the 262 and the 190 but mainly the 109.if u decide to join,we include a training course on the 109, 190 and the 262. we fight online wars againt other sqns and also against each other for practice purposes. dsl will be fine as will a dial up connection. we do ask however that u have FB. mission goals vary but at the end of the day were here to have fun. If asked who recomended u tell them frederiko sent u :-)

hope to fly with u soon

The design of FB makes online play a unique experience.... You and one other person can go online as a team against good AI pilots or get together with a squad and fly... the DF servers are to me the least fun of all...and they can be a real blast on a medium night (or day../i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif ). If you are shopping for a joystick dont skimp. FB is a great sim and to really enjoy it you will need an more than adequate stick. Dont spend less than $40. If you can catch one on sale or go here.. http://store.yahoo.com/saitekusa/recprod.html get a Saitek X45.... the best HOTAS (Hands On Throttle And Stick) for the $$. There are better ones out there but for the $79 you will spend full price or the $39-$49 for a refurbed/on sale X45 you cant go wrong. You might also want to consider a MSFFB2 stick. Since MS will no longer be making them you might find one on sale for $49 ($79 normally..used to be $99) a good stick. Whichever one you choose you want a)Rudder control and b) programmability. FB also supports mutiple sticks..... I use the Saitek and the X45 along with a set of CH Prio USB pedals. You also want USB. Avoid gameport sticks unless you already have one (which you dont...) Enjoy.

Salute PteFuller

We have some guys in our Squad who have inferior setups to yours, yet they still fly and are successful online.

You may need to tweak down your quality slightly over what you use offline, but I would assume you will be ok.

As far as whether its fun??

Nothing comes close to flying with your buddies in a Squad online. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The feeling you get when you are a part of a team, clearing each other's tails, using voice comms to warn or coordinate your wingman, is unmatchable in offline games.

When you are part of a Squadron, you can get involved in larger wars, ongoing events, where your sense of immersion and involvement in a historically based enviroment is far greater than ordinary Solo player flying.

I would highly reccommend it. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

And if you are looking for a good Allied Squadron to fly for, consider RAF74.

We have members from Australia, Britain, Canada and the United States.

We have been in existence for 7 years, and fly both WWI and WWII Sims.

Our Tiger's Head Squadron insignia is in IL-2 and IL-2 FB and available for use in Dogfight servers. We also have our own custom skins although their use has been restricted lately what with the problems with FB and skinloading.

Our public Website is here:

We fly the 262 most of the time, but we also occasionally take our 109s up. We use what some refer to as 'Full Realism' settings when we fly, with the exception of Exterior View because it's boring to have to sit on the ground next to your burnt out toast of a plane and not see anything. Of course, we don't use Exterior View while flying. If you're interested, visit www.jg51.com (http://www.jg51.com)

well m8'y, its hard to get 2 squads together from all over the world at the same time, so give that some thought to start with. but our squad just yesterday had a meet with the CPS_Casual squad, and let me tell ya, what a blast. bullets were flying all over the place.

check our site out and give it some thought if you'd like, heres the link:
