View Full Version : General Discussion spammers, note for you.

I am a little bit disturbed with amount of useless posts in General Discussion. I locked some of them, will lock more later. For those who outdone themselves in producing those post, take a note: Either you post wisely, or i`ll make sure you don`t post anymore. Enough is enough. We allow OT, but to some extent. Do not abuse it or OT will be prohibited completely. This is flight forum, not an AOL chat room, ok?

CrazyIvan, its just the banter of happy customers. Things have not been this good for a long while. The patch angst is at an all time low, people are getting into the new FM's and we have been blessed with an influx of new members.

Take a second look at all this "off-topic" messing around and you will see that it is more than just spam. Much of it is individuals talking amongst themselves, having a laugh and getting to know each other. In short, becomming a community.

If you must intervene; Edit the posts that you feel overstep the mark. Add a "Innapropriate Spam" sign or something, similar to the one you get when a sig pic exceeds the recommended size.

But please, don't go banning people just for being a bit high spirited. Few people here could deny that this forum is an integral part of the enjoyment of this sim. We are such a small community as it is. Each member here is precious and it simply does not do to needlessly squander Oleg's client base.

I would guess that Ivan has no choice but to give a warning. I and others may enjoy the spam and the jokes but I'm sure we are not the community majority. He's probably getting a lot of complaints in PM, so he's kinda cornered.

Don't blame Ivan for doing his job. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

The mods let us off the hook pretty easily compared to other forum's mods. We got it good. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Point taken Ivan.

Been here 4.5 years and I've never been banned. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Seriously though, I have tried other forums but found there are only two options; complete freedom or complete control.

In the forums with complete freedom you will find the lowest of the low. They post very offensively and are usually very racist or prejudice.

In the complete control forums, if the thread is about red apples, your post about green apples will be deleted followed by a warning.

GD is in the middle. Lately though, we have been "spam-cramming". IMHO, it's getting boring.

We still have a lot of freedom in regards to OT. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

True, but you're too nice to be banned; even your spam is pleasant and inoffensive.

If you tried harder to be nasty, flamed more, used inappropriate language, made allusions to socially unacceptable behaviour in others etc., you might get binned. Don't know what other advice to offer.

The mods might take pity on you and give you a fortnight off for no good reason I guess but it'd be better if you earned it.

I've been trying for a year or so now and despite some fairly outrageous behaviour have yet to succeed.

In my opinion his biggest catch was the 4.0 bug reporting (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/63110913/m/4401098823/r/4401098823#4401098823) thread ...

Thanks for reminding everybody Ivan. I really don't like coming on these forums because generally it doesn't help me find anything that's very helpful. Most of the time, it's "Why doesn't this do this?" And of course, the off topic.

It's amazing the amount of information people have made into handbooks. My newly favorite is Eastern Skies. http://people.ee.ethz.ch/~chapman/il2guide/index.htm

Not that I'm saying the forums aren't helpful. I read Tully's guide and that was great. It's just some people are just too involved in increasing the post count and look important. Hopefully you can keep cracking downI wish there was a limitation on signatures and banners too, it's such a migraine looking at all of them.

Over time many of us have gotten to know each other's personalities, or at least quirks. It's not so easy to be serious all the time. To add, many who have been here a long time are now quite knowledgable about the game and patches and such. Questions are quickly and effectively answered. On to the next thread. A couple years a ago, these simple questions were not so simple.

We used to have dev updates but now there seems to be nothing or at least nothing to talk about. AFAIK, there are no BoB updates either.

I see nothing wrong with "OT". "Off Topics" hold this community together especially when the information flow from the developers has stopped flowing.

Too add, most put "OT" in their thread titles. This is fair since it warns those who are not interested in "OT" topics. If you open the thread, to bad, you were warned.

But lately the spam has been piling up. Time to take it out. The last thing we need is another Yahoo forum.

Okay mod's, What can we talk about now that:

1. No new info about the next patch exist's.
2. No new pictures.
3. No new info (okay, it's still maybe too early) about B.O.B.

If all that we are allowed to talk about is WW2 (as long as we all agree that there were no bad guys!) and planes from before 1945 (also as long as we all agree not one plane is better than the rest!), then I for one will go elsewhere.

Give us something to talk about from the game please, and I am sure the OT THREADS WILL DIE DOWN!

What next, a post telling us not to say Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year?
