I still have the bookshelf version of the game. I have a number of the bookshelf games: Panzer Leader, Tobruk, Luftwaffe, and, of course, Squad Leader (and add-ons). Recently dug up all these old games (got many, many others too) and lately have been fooling around with Up Front. Even though I had bought it, I had never really played it before. Turns out it is a really great game!

When I was a kid, though, we used to play Panzerblitz for hours. Fond memories...

Thanks for the link.. I can't wait to fly 190 F-8 with 8x Panzerblits ! Finally some effective tank busting.. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I just hope they are as accurate as soviet made rockets (which rockets fly exactly where you aim them).

Yah, the old Avalon board games were mint. I still have France 1940, Luftwaffe, Wake Island and a couple other ones. 12 hours to play France 1940, great for when your snowed in.

aaaaargh, avalon hill... wargames...

i still have panzerblitz, it is really good, can't remember if i still have panzerleader as well or sold it...

And what about the "air force" game... My god, i spent so many hours playing this one, with its funny dials for aircraft perfs... With the "dauntless" gamette, it was the best of all ww2 air war wargames...

I was very fond also of "flight leader", their modern jet wargame, i liked it more than "air superiority" from GDW...

And "flat tops", and my favorite, but no well known, tactical ww2 wargame, "Up Front"...

But i now have "Steel Panthers World at War", "IL2FB", "Strike fighter project", "Falcon 4", "Panzer Elite", "Operation flashpoint" with "invasion 44" mod...

The problems to play tabletop wargames were the time involved, the place necessary, and the necessity to have an opponent...

The computer games make for all these...

Those are some old games.Panzerblitz,Panzer Leader,
- Tobruk, Luftwaffe, and, of course, Squad Leader .
How old are you?!?!.
If anyone gets rid of Luftwaffe .Let me know.
There is still a following on Squad leader,
Third Reich, now Advanced 3rd Reich is alive & well. Around 200dollars now.
Just clear the dinning room table & spend 3 days to play, Still play about once a year.
Got Squad leader parts anyone want them?

Owlwatcher....I'm 49. Talking about all those old games brings back fond old memories. I'm going to have to dig them out of the box and read the rule books again. I may even try playing them for awhile..if i can find teh room. LOL.. I used to have a spare dining room table that i set them up on. My first game was RedStar-WhiteStar by SPI(?) I still have a ton of their games.
