Most of you are already aware of the different types of installation for the patch. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

But there are still some who are unsure.
This is for those who remain unsure. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You MUST download the right patch for your game for it to work correctly. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

EMEA DVD: This dl is for the retail boxed version bought in Europe, Middle East or Asia.

EMEA Download: This dl is for the game that was downloaded directly off the internet for European, Middle Eastern or Asian users.

US DVD: This dl is for the retail boxed version bought anywhere in the US or Canada.

US Download: This dl is for the game that was downloaded directly off the internet for American or Canadain users.

If after installing your correct type patch you still get problems then it may be advisable to do a clean installation of SHIII.
Patch the clean installation.
Restart your PC.
Run the game.
If everything runs OK, Then start to put your mods back in one at a time.

I hope this helps some of our newer SHIII users.
Good luck !

I might add, that just because you bought the game in the USA doesn't mean you necessarily have the that version. I bought mine from gogamer.com, just after it came out. When I dl'd the US DVD patch, I couldn't get it to install... found out that they had actually sold me the European version. Worked fine after dl of that patch.

You can install this game as much times as you want. Since Starforce GRANTS that NO ONE will be able to play the game without the DVD, Ubisoft doesn't require any further security system.

btw, Starforce can damage some PCs, so be careful about the first install of the game. And avoid doing that in the work's PC.

You don't KNOW that it can damage some PC's, so I don;'t think you should say that.

Hi Guys - just a quick confirmation please.
I have just purchased the sim, can I assume that I only need to download the correct patch, DVD in my case, and then patch the game with the latest patch just once. In other words patch 3 also contains patch 1 & 2 already ?
I hope I do not have to download all three patches and install them seperately.
Thanks guys

I used the "GameShadow" program to upgrade to 1.4. How can I tell if it installed the right version (DVD-Download)of the patch? I have the box set on DVD.

DO NOT INSTALL 1.4 UNLESS :

1.) You are willing to play through an entire mission at one sitting.

2.) You are willing to accept the fact that there is a high probability that during the course of that mission your PC will crash to desk top loosing the entire effort of that mission period.

REASON: The game "SAVE" function does NOT work! The warning that this is a common problem with 1.4 is noted right on the UBI web site install notes.

IMHO: This is NOT and "Oh by the way .." issue. It is a game breaker.

I can't say that I noticed that problem with the 1.4 patch. Iplayed the game and it worked just fine.

I'm using the emea dvd version btw.

The only issue I have with the game is that every time I use gameshadow it crashes out on me.

Still at least they haven't given up on maual installations.

May the wind be always at your back

I downloaded the EMEA DVD patch and I think it is working correctly. However, when I use Gameshadow to check for new patches etc, it flags up a US version. How do I check the DVD in the box. I bought from play.com

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/cry.gifthe only thing i have a problem with is the audio in the hydrophone room, it used to be that you could listen at surface.
Now you have to be underwater to be able to hear.
Before i installed the 1.4b patch it worked fine.
After i installed it,it took me a whole mission to realize that there where ships there i just couldn't hear them. Submerged there is no problem.

pixel shaders eh! i am afraid you need a new graphics card to tackle this one. I bought an nvidia fx5200, the cheapest i could find that does the job........ result, no probs, it works http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

You should only need to enter your CD key once, not everytime you insert the disc, thereafter it auto detects the CD for you. You have a problem which "may" suggest a drivers issue within your PC.
Run a utility diagnostic tool on your PC like Norton utilities or Tune-up utilities 2005 and see if it can find a problem.

pixel shaders are indeginous to certain grapihcs cards and if your card does not support it then you will not be able to use/see this effect.. a new card is the only solution.

Its a pity that new technology keeps us buying new stuff and constant upgrades but thats the way it is, cant help you any further.

Ok, I am in Australia, it is as far as regions go 'Oceania', or part of the Asian area, so this is the patch I installed. It completely shagged everything up, so I uninstalled the entire game and all associate files etc, then reinstalled and didn't worry about the patch. I think I can happily live with some of the bugs as nothing is perfect, but as a matter of interest, which patch do we Aussies use?

Heya Hueywolf123, I just installed it yesterday and patched using the "EMEA DVD" version.
I purchased my copy here in New Zealand, so hopefully both Aus & NZ have the same suppliers.
(I did try the "US DVD" version beforehand, which gave me a lot of grief and messed up the install)

Hope its of some help

Hi, I just bought the game a couple of hours ago and I plan to try it late in the afternoon. I bought in France the DVD version and I just want to be sure about what I should do :

1/ install the game ;
2/ patch it in 1.14b for EMEA DVD from one of those links that can be found here : http://www.silent-hunteriii.com/uk/updates.php
3DGamers
Ubi.com
StrategyInformer
FileFront
WorthPlaying
Gamershell

After that, I have the latest version of the game ? Right ?
