Did any americans fly the P-63 in ww2? or did they just give it to the russians?

Yes, I think the US did use a few, though not operationally. Someone with more knowledge on this than me could probably tell you more.

As far as I can tell, none were used operationally by te USAAF. It's older brother the P-39 had a bad reputation amongst the USAAF. It performed a niche role that wasn't needed, and it had shorter legs than the types already seeing service. Most were given to Russia, a few Free French (~300) and some modified with extra armour to be used as live targets for bomber gunners.
