Hey everyone,

I've dug through the forums pretty deep and havent been able to find the asnwers to this. I was wonderful what settings everyone has found to work the best for a Ge4200TI 128mb card? So far I run msot things with high levels and I havent had any problems. Just wondering what settings others have found that gives the best quality.

Also I am runing the omega drivers for the vid card based on the advice of a friend when I was playing a FPS. Should I junk these and go with the 1c reccomended drivers?

Thanks

i have the same question

I get a steady 33 FPS with my 4200 while in-cockpit looking forward. My video options are all "excellent" except for landscape lighting and visibility distance, which I set to "medium". I use 1280x960 resolution, and 16 bit color rather than 32. If you use 16 bit color and check "use dither" in the setup utility, not only do you get a significant FPS boost but the difference in graphics is hardly noticeable. Also I'm using water=0 and forest=0.

My specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 2600+ 2.13 GHZ
768 MB DDR
GeForce4 Ti4200 128MB with NVIDIA's 56.72 Drivers.

Also I overclock my card, my settings for it are:
Core Clock: 305MHZ
Memory Clock: 500MHZ

I hope this helps!

*bump* anyone else care to weigh in with their 4200 settings and performance?

I can play on Perfect but choose to play on excellent. When the going gets tough it gives just enough extra frames to keep things reasonably smooth. Omega drivers, 52.16.

yea tullys right. in quick mission id say water=0 and forst=1 or 0. but if your going to be flying campagins go with high or execllent. i always found puting ground to med helped alot.It also depends on the speed of your cpu. when i had a 1.6 P4 and my current 9500pro, perfect was a pipe dream. with only two or three planes in quick mission id get like 4 or 5 fps but now that i have a bit faster cpu and the same card it does alot better.

As far as card settings go. id use the 2nd highst settings for texture detail and cut AA and AS of unless you have a monitore abouve 17 inch. also try running in 800/600 res. that cut my stutter rate in half.

Tully and fordfan, do you both use this vid card? What sort of framerates do you guys get? I've always wondered how my 4200's performace compares to anyone else's.

I haven't checked recently the actual framerates, but I'd guess 20-30 average. I have V-sync on at the moment, that limits the maximum a bit and hence affects the average. If I savage it with loads of AAA it can get below 10fps but I don't see flack that vicious very often unless I design a mission myself with high GPU/CPU loads in mind.

Hi,

PC:
AMD XP2400+ (~2.0GHz)
ECS K7S5A+ MB
512MB PC2100
XFX GeForce 4Ti4200 64MB (4x)
WinXP Pro
44.03 drivers (recommended 56.xx caused frequent crash to desktop)

Res: 1024x768x32
2xAA (this increased FPS)

Graphic settings:
View distance: High
Object detail: Normal
All other settings 'one notch off the bottom'

I like frames cos it helps in shooting planes down.

Online & providing there is little carrier AAA about, I average about 60FPS with PF, especially above 1000m. Max FPS will be about 90 and min about 30.

For AEP, I averaged about 70 with 130 being the max and 40 the min.

Cheers,
Norris

Out of curiousity, is it possible to run perfect under 16bit colors now?

No you have to be in 32bit to set perfect. You may notice perfect is shown but not selectable.

I have been struggling to get perfect with my machine and realize now I dont think its my card (GFFX 5500 256ddr) but my machine (P4 1.8G 512ram)so lately I have been trying to get the best performance with excellant. This thread will help with that I think.

Tully, thanks for the tip about turning off v-sync. It gave me a 10-15 FPS boost!
