Fellas,

One thing I've always loved about this community, (and I've been here a hell of a lot shorter time than many of you!) is the fact that our brotherhood spans all ages and walks of life.

I am also amazed at my level of loyalty to Oleg and the passion I feel about this game in my short stint here. Some of us are older professionals; some of us are starving college students (or younger!), and everything in between. There are *hundreds* if not *thousands* of us including all the occasional lurkers.

Being born an American gives me an inherent belief in the power of people to organize for a good cause and get something accomplished.

Based on the assumption that any person in the world is only a few degrees of separation away from any other, I believe if we pool resources it should be possible to get some attention to our cause and Oleg€s plight.

I truly believe that if the right people were to be *enlightened* to this situation that an amenable agreement could be reached

You might think, "But what can we do?". Let me just say this.

Some of us may know influential people in the defense industry.

Some of us may know or have family in politics.

Some of us may know (or are) attorneys specializing in IP and related fields.

The rest of us can organize and send respectful and intelligently worded *written* letters to the individuals we collectively single out as being able to influence the situation.[/list]

Here is what I pledge to do for our cause. I have a brother who is a partner in at a law firm specializing in digital IP and related fields. I'll talk to him this weekend (not specifically about the 1C situation but more in general terms) and see what the prospects look like.

I also will be willing to draft several form letters that anyone will be able to download, if they don't have the time to write their own.

Anyone have any other ideas? Lets use this thread as a place to gather ideas and *facts* NOT spread rumors and speculation.

Time to rally round the cause

Time to rally round the cause

count me in But! I highly recomend we dont go after the aerospace TRADEMARK people (aka lawyers)

We stand NO CHANCE of changing any aspects of trademark law!

The only chance we stand is via the MARKETING people. In the past BAD PRESS has caused big companys to do a 180 faster than any team of lawyers!

So, dont take the tac of "YOU GREEDY BASTAGES!" they will just TUNE you out and hand you off to the laywers.. But paint a picture of HOW IRONIC it is that your company help beat the AXIS powers aircraft in real life.. But in simulations the AXIS win because your planes are not represented due to the high cost of your trademarks!

Like I have said in other posts, lets give UBI and Oleg/1C some time before we do anything.

It would really suxxors (I can't believe I'm spelling it that way), if something that a member of the community did messed up whatever negotiations are ongoing.

Lawers are a twitchy bunch, poke them and they react, and not always like we would want.

A time for us to act may come, but now is not that time.

@Tagert;
rgr that! I don't propose that we try to change the way the law works or its structure. (George Dubbya will take care o that one!)

@ELAurens;
Yup rgr that! Not proposing that we storm the legal offices of "Dewy Cheatem and Howe" with torches and pitchforks!

I agree with the both of you that public opinion will change this situation around very quickly if we handle this right....

Be careful how much attention you attract with all your protest and letters to Northrup. Ubi/Maddox may be negotiating for the rights to use those planes. If the aerospace company hears all these complaints they may raise to license price to support the apparent demand. Supply and Demand baby...

That is...if we really can do something cuz otherwise we`re just being silly here.

Funny how this whole business came up just at the height of the video game buying season - Christmas. Maybe this will all blow over. Grumman might just want a bit of publicity on the box and a "Thanks from" to scroll past at game start up. Then again maybe they want money.

As a last resort 1C could call them Generic US WW2 fighters & Fighter Bombers. You know bomber type "A", "B" etc. For ships, as with what we have now, a "Generic" US Yorktown Class carrier. Mind you some fiddling with polygons would have to take place. You purest would have fits though.

Just some thoughts.

You know this kind of reminds me of when Metallica Cried about their rights to the music people were downloading to go and buy their music. Northrop/Grumman used to be my favorite Aircraft company until they merged. Too much Politics in a merger of that nature. Grumman's heirarchy is not to blame for this. Reason I know this is because a friend of mine has worked for the Dawn Patrol for many many years (42 years if my memory serves). When I say used to be my favorite aircraft company is because it pains me to see this happening.

You Do not see some of the Aircraft companies of other nations such as mitsubishi (Car and aircraft company now) or Rolls Royce suing for rights do you now? Only In America I say, and I am an American. It all boils down to the almighty dollar.

My Thought to these companies is you helped to win the war, Let the Software Companies Forever honor all who fought and died to keep the memory of those that perished alive. You are doing a diservice to their memories and to their families. Take notice and look what Oleg Maddox is accomplishing by making this software, Instead of going after him you folks need to be fullfilling your contracts and quit wasting the consumer's time as well as your own. You are not getting any where with this petty infringement into my fun and to remember the True Hereoes.

Get In on the bandwagon and endorse history not capitalize on it.

All the hardware bought by the US is owned by the gov't. Not the taxpayers. If what you say is true, why can't I go down to the nearest base and take a F/A-18? Or I can't to a Guard Armory and help myself to all the M-16s I can carry?

The USS New Jersey is parked across the river from me. Can I go onboard and take it for a spin? There was a Stealth Fighter at the last airshow I went to. Behind the ropes was a sign that said if you crossed said ropes you could be shot. So why would I be shot if I own it?
Or why was the father and his child chased out from under a F-14 by the pilot at the same show.

Why did the people who race Mustangs have to buy them first? They already owned them, didn't they? Why do I have to pay for a set of fatigues at a local Army/Navy store if I own them?

Nuff said, though I could add more.
