Hey there ya 'ol,

I be find'n maself in Japan, like, and there seems t' be some limitation to what I can buy here.

If ar bar locally these seem to be th' options:

ATi X800 XT (but too expensive - $us650)
ATi X800 Pro ($450)
Albatron Trinity GeForce 6800 ($318)
ATi 9600 XT (128MB) ($202)
Sapphire 9600 XT (256MB) ($200)
Asus 9600 XT (128MB) ($163)

If they were your choices with a P4 2.8GHz/1 Gig RAM system, which would you choose?

Ideally I would like to run on perfect mode with a decent frame rate (of course), but I'm also aware that by the time BoB comes out, in a year or two, better cards will be available, so I expect to be upgrading then.

Ah there, dona be a shootin' this way, like 'cause I'm...

X800Pro seem to be the best buy in that bunch of cards. Unless, ofcourse, that GeForce 6800 is a GT.

There are no 9800s available where the original poster lives (a city in Japan), Bear. Apparently, they're so popular and are now sold out!

That's just what I was about to say.

Haven't found any after going to three big shops in Yokohama.

There will be some around somewhere, I'm sure, in the big smoke of Tokyo.

BTW Thanks for the comments so far, Keep 'em coming!

IF you can spare the 450 go for the X800.

You might also want to check if there are any X600s and GForce 6600s available near you.

Here in sweden the X800 is close to 550 bucks which wsa way to rich for me. I went cheap and got a 9600 XT with 256MB.

But still if you can afford it go for higher end of the scale and your investment will last longer.

I've been very tempted to go for the X800XT PE, in blighty its about 350, however i dont think it will play IL2FB/aep on full game and vga settings comfortably(online also), so i'm tempted to wait for the PCI Express cards to come down in price, they're about 650, but i'm wondering if you have to replace your MB for these, and when are they likely to hit the 350 price mark?

Of course im also thinking of BoB

Wait for a 9800xt or try and get a X800 Pro VIVO. reason being is that the VIVO can have the xtra 4 pipes unlocked. whereas the pro cannot. oh and that will void the warrenty. A system like yours would fare well with the 9800xt though. Also been hearing good stuff about the 6800 GT and Ultras. but not from the plain 6800's.

See if you can wait abit longer.

You definitely need a new mobo for any PCIX cards.
