I know that probably most of you will fall off from your seats, and will say "is this guy nuts???",when you read this..but i'll ask!
Its not even gonna work in the game, but just want it to stay at my plane for full realisme. And this is the "filter" wich was plased on the german planes in desert or tropical service, and mostly placed on the Me-109 series,to help normal operating of the engine, and protect it from the dust or the high temperatures. Its not hard to bring it to us in the new 4.09 patch(if there's something like this),my idea is to place it in the "Weapon"seaction in the game(where you can select your bomb load or gun pods...).And we can select it with or without every weapon, per example(we'll call it "Filter"):Filter+SC 250,or Filter+2x151/20 gunpods, and the same weapon list without "Filter" as we have now(as we have now to choose SC 250,Drop tank,2xMg 151/20...).I thing its a good idead its not a new plane and its not hard to creat it.What you thing?
p.s:If the Olegs guys don't want to create it,i'll try it my self...just tell me how http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif .

Well, modding of this sim is impossible, it's code is locked and we, users are unable to modify it in any way. You can add/modify things like skins, maps, missions etc, but not the core of the sim, and external models of planes fall into this category (together with maps, flight models, weapon modelling etc).

I know that..thats bad. There are thousands of IL-2 fans, and hundred could make a lot of fun mods for the game, that will make it more realistic.

Yeah, idea seems attractive at first, but it would be a death sentence for online gaming for sure.

Bah! That's the hardest I've laughed in a while! Somebody doesn't remember CFS2.

Spitfires wielding a battery of twenty some odd 30mm cannons...that would be the future there...and the past http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hmmmm, a Spitfire with 30 cannons. Sounds great ... I think I'll give it a try ...

Grrrr! Looks like I need FluffPanzer909's modified cockpit for that. There's a link in the ReadMe to FluffPanzer909's website ... Darn, that link is dead. I guess I'll have to check Simviation ...

Thankfully I found it after just fifteen minutes of searching at Simviation. Cool, I even got the right revision number! But what's this, I need AkronBat's improved instrument cluster? Where's do I find that? Oh, it's in the "Flames Of Fame Design Group's Typhoon IB pack. I guess I have to download that now ...

Okay, I found the instruments. It turns out I have to edit a bunch of lines in the config file to make them work in the Spitfire. But now the Typhoon needs to be renamed so there won't be a conflict. Which means SnackSnake's realistic contrail effects file doesn't work with it anymore. No problem, I can edit that ...

Back to the Spitfire. I can't wait to try it out online and blast those UFO FW190s! But what's this? I don't have all the same FMs as my buddies on the Virtua-Clouds server? They're also using Fox-Smolder's "improved weapons values files" for all planes except the Lancaster (they prefer Baby Huey's file), the Tie Fighter (Black-Adder_Shark's model, not HarleeRyder69's), the Bf109G-4, the Condor, the F-22 Raptor, the Vultee ... I've got a bunch of 'missing object' conflicts also. Whose list of must-haves are they using now?

Once I get this all sorted out, I just noticed there is a really great looking Harrier jet at Sim Cafe. It doesn't have a cockpit, but that's okay. I sure love the Harrier.

A trop filter makes it slower.

Flight_boy-

you say that adding the tropical sand filter is not hard to do.

May I ask how you know this?

Everyone here know that the modding of whatever it is,is not easy. But i only want something,as the whole Il-2 fans here, who want some things to be added in this simulator!

I can understand that. But you have to realise that this sim has been out for literally years, and many little details could be corrected. The list is long.

Making the sim open to mods is a touchy subject. It can be a problem. Many people don't realise the effects it can have. For instance, let's say that you make an offline single player campaign, with the sim just as it is right now, and you release it

Your campaign will work just fine- but let's say I have modded the planes in it. Now what happens? Things don't work right anymore- planes might be going too fast or too slow. They might gain or lose weapons loadouts that you didn't forsee. The campaign could become ridiculously hard, or perhaps it will have missions that cannot be completed anymore because of aircraft performance being greater than you anticipated, for the AI

And that's only offine play

It is generally thought that "the community will mod for the good of the sim". And many modders might do just that. But many won't. Those that won't will make unhistorically based aircraft that can ruin many aspects of the sim's attraction for many players, online and offline

Then too, you'll have modders who mean well, but use bad data that they think is accurate. I can't tell you how many times I've read posts by members of the community that swear they have 'accurate' info which is just wrong, but they don't realise it

here's what I think: the average modder for this sim would do a quick check with Wikipedia for the changes they would make, and that's all. Reference books are things that many community members just don;t have, and the idea of doing reserach at maybe a library is alien to many people- just let me look online, and if a website lists something, it must be fact. But see, the internet is not to be trusted. The trouble is, the net will be trusted by many many people to do their modding

It's a situation that the majority of players simply don't want to deal with

It might not seem difficult to implement a dust filter and add it to the weapons loadout (that's two things already btw), but I suspect it to be very hard... IL2 planeset seems to be constructed in groups of planes - mess with one, you mess with all the planes in that group...

Making an exception for one plane would mean excessive code changing - And you can wait for the next one around the corner that wants some other detail changed... The developement team has moved on to SoW:BoB. There are no more changes to FB to be expected.
The dust filter alone would need a change in the 3D model of the plane(set),the flightmodel and the damage model.

If you want a sim you can change, go buy X-Plane, and don't expect large online battles http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
If you can count, count on this: NO is the only answer you will get with regards to changes/additions to FB.

I remember years back an add-on "aircraft" for FS SDOE that was a cow, yes a cow. When you retracted the gear the legs went up like superman and the udders were a turret, open the bombay and the tail raised up and poop fell out, and the engine sound was a continous littany of "gunnagetcha-gunnagetcha". Funny but you can imagine how Il-2 would look after a few dozen modders put what they wanted in the game.
