This technology demo renders vast landscapes with an incredible amount of detail in real-time. The accurate per pixel shading of the terrain ensures that you can see every little feature of the surface, even at extreme distances!

Base map is the 160Km x 160Km elevation data of the Puget Sound area (Washington State, USA)
Visibility range well over 200Km (practically unlimited)
Yet, very detailed geometry (2.5m horizontal resolution everywhere)
Original low resolution dataset is enhanced with procedural detail (created with Perlin Noise)
Resulting in an effective geometrical resolution of 65537x65537 vertices (and could be greater)
Diffuse bump mapped surface results in even better perceived resolution

Check out the videos. Its extremely impressive.

Also look into Diamond algorithm as its equally impressive.

I plan to experiment with both soon.
