View Full Version : Il-2 Sturmovik: 1946 should have been called Il-10?

Looking at the stuff that people have written, posted, filmed about the Il-2 Sturmovik 1946 package - they're all focussing on the Lerche and the '46 jets. There's not so much interest in the Il-10, maps, objects, and the fact that the DVD contains everything released in the last 3-4 years...

Perhaps, if the DVD had been called 'Il-10', it could have emphasised the fact that the DVD contains much, much more stuff than the Lerche? 'Il-10' implies a later, more advanced version of 'Il-2', which is exactly what the DVD is...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I think its just hype on the forums. The teamspeak chatter on several servers over the last few days seems to be about planes like the IL-10, N1K-2J, and so forth. The Lerche is a funny curiosity plane that I think everyone is having a blast with right now because its so unique (and I'm glad to see it introduced as something fun and for people to be having fun with it) but when it comes down to the serious war scenarios the IL-10 is where its at.

I hear its a fantastic aircraft too. And 20mm rear turret apparently? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

This is just based on things like that French magazine's review, the IGN review (for what that's worth!), and the videos on YouTube - they all seem preoccupied with the '46 content.

Oh well, it's too late to change it...<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Yes it is but no it doesnt have a 20mm rear gun, that would be the IL10M which also had 4x23mm NS-23 cannons. Ours is the first serial production version with 2x7,62mm ShKas and 2x23mm NS-23 guns which entered service in spring/summer 1945.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

Could not agree more. IL-10 Sturmovik would have been more suited and possibly sold more DVDs. Im no marketing major though so who knows. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I respectfully disagree. There appear to be a lot of newcomers on this and other boards already since '46 hit the shelves, and I think that excellent looking package and "sexy" content will attract far more casuals and curiosity buyers in the Western markets than a reference to a Russian ground attack aircraft (That IL-2 did so well globally is 0% marketing and 100% word of mouth, IMHO).

And let's face it, anyone who knows what an IL-10 is will have been waiting for this release for months anyway - that plane is a beast!

I think they've done well!

I understand your point. Well said. I was thinking in terms of sales towards aviation enthusiast. But we are a some group indeed. Perhaps UBI had their head screwed on correctly this time after all. Once again...who knows.
