I am very excited as to how this may or may not affect aircraft in future simulations

Does this mean that UBI is out as publisher/distributor?

Not flaming, just trying to understand the ramifications is all.

hard to tell, but I can't see the value of having two publishers in North America

I would imagine that the change is some time in the future, still

I suppose it is possible that Ubi would still publish in some regions of the world, but I wouldn't bet on it, personally. The news is very vague though. Who knows? I'm sure more news will be forthcoming in the near future. I am gaurdedly optimistic about the ramifications

hmmm wonder if 1c will publish BoB...

If UBI has posted screenshots on the homepage...

then I'm going with... no.

I wonder if UBI will shut down this forum. Probably not.. they will probably still publish in the U.K.

And the rest of Europe....

Great news Chuck.

At the bottom is fantasticalistic news...not the game, but the mail order game DVD with printed manual.

10.04.2007 | Theatre of War Gone Gold

1C and Battlefront.com are excited to announce that Theatre of War has now officially gone gold!....will be released...initially via digital delivery...and a couple of weeks later in a DVD version with printed manual <span class="ev_code_yellow">available by mail</span>. Theatre of War is not sold in stores due to Battlefront's "independent publisher" policy.
Businesses have been successful for a hundred years filling mail orders. The game makers may be figuring this out now -- an alternative to online download of "nothing" and an alternative to the XboX game stores that place PC games on the shelf behind the Mall dumpster.

I doubt this would have any effect on us for a long time to come. I fully expect BoB to be published by Ubisoft. I don't think they would close down these forums, either. At least, not until they are no longer needed.

The word imminent springs to mind! Our long hoped for English spoken Euro forum might be on the horizon.

Well, based on the wording of the news, I would infer that in the US, 1C will publish and distribute thier products, but with only the mention of a 1C 'office' being opened in the UK, and an Asia-Pacific, I'd say Ubisoft are still in line to publish in these regions.

But this is good news, certainly! I would say that 1C has a better working relationship with 1C:Maddox, and presumably are better able to work with each other to get their products onto the market. It has often seemed to me that Ubisoft have often been aggravators, and have been too pushy with 1C:Maddox regarding this product line.

Anyway, good news for the future I'd say!

Cool! 1C makes some neat looking titles. For example, a few weeks ago I saw some SMERSH (Soviet counter-espionage) game on their site. It would be great to get some new meat on the market here.

ubi hasnt marketed or distributed the 1C games in the usa at all (going by all the complaints from people trying to buy 1946 previously), so it seems logical some other company is now doing it (1C itself in partnership with atari)

for western europe it looks like ubi still will be the main company, for now at least.

Ubi distributed IL2,ACE, FB, PF etc...
so saying they didn't distribute 1C products just because of 1946 being distributed late is somewhat inaccurrate.

Atari belongs to Infogrames, another french company, which is not doing very well at the moment. We'll see.

I don't see how UBI would not distribute SoW:BoB. The contract has been signed years ago.

Will know more in a few days http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Infogrames; I remember them as the company that bought MicroProse when EAW was still at the forefront of combat flight sims. The EAW community pleaded for the source code so the third party programmers could continue to build the sim, Infogrames refused, then said they had lost the source code so stop asking.

hmm, Atari is not the most stable of business partners...

I would imagine this new partnership would be used to market 1C games we never got over here, as well as new titles. Stuff that's already in the pipeline, like SoWBoB and possibly later SoW titles, will still go through Ubi I imagine.

Cool! Maybe 1C will drop the console loving UBI and also open up their own forums. Now that would be excellent news! Have not had much love for UBI since they destroyed the Rainbow Six series. IMHO of course.
