First off it's cool to see another silent hunter coming out been enjoying Sh3. Just wish there were maybe a few more trailers or screenshots. Anyways I had been wondering does anyone one know what or if there were significant differences between the German and U.S. subs during WW2. Maybe this is a silly question I don't know. Any info would be appreciated.

Im sure there are more screenshots coming and definitly more trailers when the release comes closer.

There were indeed some differences between u.s subs and u-boats.

For example u.s sub classes were a bit bigger and had more torpedo tubes (6 bow and 4 aft torpedo tubes)

But u-boats could dive deeper. The crush depth for a VII-C was between 820-967 ft (250-295 meters) although some u-boats went even deeper. (beyond 310 meters)

And u-boats could crash dive faster than u.s submarines. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Going slightly off track, I read 'Kursk - A Time to Die' by Robert Moore and remember a photograph in the book of the onboard sauna/plunge pool. No, really! How times change eh?

We had a sauna on the Cachalot in the Med in the 70s. Well, alright, it was actually called the Motor Room, but it worked fine for a sweat bath and saved on water.

What you might call a Balao Class washing machine (USS Ling).....

That isn't anything new. The USN gets pretty well pampered.

I was on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70, Nimitz Class Aircraft Carrier), and we had a bowling alley with three lanes, a McDonald's restaurant, two ship's "Malls", a small convenience store and a gym. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Just kidding, all we had was a small gym, two ship's stores for personal effects and a few small soft drink and snack dispensing machines we called the "Geedunk Hole". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Don't worry Celeon... my old ship still has bombs that can pass through your living room window, without even touching the framework.

I know you guys are only having a little fun, but I'm sure washing, both clothes and yourself...was a WELCOME addition on those close quarter subs!

It's like in my firehouse.....some guys don't want to have their bunker gear cleaned after a job. They try and look as "salty" as possible. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif It's like they roll around in the stuff afterwards to add a little extra. It's kind of funny really. We have two sets of gear(for changing when it gets really wet) and when they come to pick up the gear for cleaning, I see some guys try and put their newer cleaner gear in the pile for cleaning.
Do they think that if they look filthy and salty it makes them better firemen? Poor young lads....they'll understand one day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Me...I like to go around at night, when the kiddies are all tucked in and try and find the guy who dirties up his helmet the most. The one that has very little melting, so I know he's salting it up on purpose and get out the old Armor All and give it a good spit shine! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif
The look on their face for the next run is priceless! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

I did a little extra research. And it seems the U.S. subs were just a touch faster than the German subs.
