I'm not a bad pilot, but I'll chalk my name up to being the worst shot in the world. I can't hit a B-17 from 100 m with a fully loaded FW-190. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I'm a pretty good virtual pilot...its my combat skills that are sometimes questionable.

My aim is good too...its just getting there in the fight.

I was never a good pilot, because I never flew a real plane http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif As far as playing this sim... I still wasn't very good, but 4.01 made things a lot better.

I pretty much suck, but I enjoy it anyway.

sy-subrc

... and I'm getting worse and worse... I once (4.01) had a K/D between 3 and 4 on WC but it continues to drop.. approaching 1.5 not to mention my hitrate - ridiculous.

Maybe it's part of the learning curve (but I don't think so..)

I'd say I'm pretty high up there. Only play offline, and that AI really teaches you bad tactics. I know if I were ever to play online, people would eat me for lunch without trying. Plus I don't have anything but a simple joystick and mouse, not the uber track IR stuff that will let me have visibility.

Oh, and I don't always play full real either, so that develops super bad habits.

I do generally remember the gear, though.

I'm a great pilot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif
There is no way i can count the times i have terrified an enemy pilot by shooting tracers past his canopy whilst skillfully missing every vital element of his machine.
I am thoroughly well-versed in the technique of overshooting and letting my opponent and keeping him trapped on my six.
I also find it to be of great assistance to my flying to rid myself of excess articles such as ammunition (by shooting it in the general direction of others while inflicting b*gger-all damage) and fuel (by expertly maneuvering my aircraft in front of bullets, puncturing my fuel tank and excising all that horrible, explosive fluid). Once this has been achieved i usually gain extra advantage by further reducing the weight of my machine by another 90kg+ by bailing out.... does that count as cheating http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif
I take my inspiration from this guy-

I can take off but I can't navigate. Autopilot is my friend. I don't understand superchargers or prop pitch. Some of the instrument dials still confuse and frighten me. My situational awareness is horrible -- I lose visual I.D. on my enemies and I wander away from my friends in combat. I turnfight when I should Boom-and-Zoom. I can't shoot down a bomber from any position except from its "six." My 'evasive maneuvers' actually put me in more danger. Online I'm easy meat and I average one kill every five hours in a dogfight room. My targets are more likely to die from boredom than from accurate gunnery ...

And yet, oddly, I'm terribly addicted to this game ...

Turn. They're going really, really fast on the way down. Wait til they're about 500 meters, then turn.

Split S works, too. Immelmann. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

One of the best I ever pulled was while trying to sneak-up on a P-47 on-line. I was climbing really steep below him, but he spotted me and I soon realized he was diving at me now. I performed a flawless hammerhead stall - one of the few, I still have a hard time with that maneuver - and he completely missed me.

I can hit bombers okay. Even from different angles when my aim is true.

I suck horribly at dogfighting though. AI Aces eat me up and puke me out. I'm only evenly matched against the Veteran AI.

I have learned to get back to friendly territory regularly though. That took some time to accomplish. Mostly due to being satisfied enough to damage aircraft instead of needing to finish them off into the ground. Hit and run, baby, hit and run!

I'm acctually quite good...Ive never played offline. Offline is pretty boring.

Sometimes I come back home from a fight with 3 kills and no damage.

I can land perfectly at any hight angle and speed
My deflection shooting skills are incredible at times
I am very good at shaking people off my six
I am very good at getting on someones six in a head on pass
I am very good at controlling my advantage in a dogfight
I am very good at getting the hell out of a dogfight
I can go for hours without getting shot down

I suck at taking off sometimes...I bend my prop alot because my trim is always messed up.
I make stupid mistakes
I tend to run into my target alot
I can't hit **** close up or dead on six...It has to be a deflection shot!!!
My turning climbing skills arn't very efficient

No joke, I have never been able to hit something up close. My best shot to date was a single round from my mk108 in a dive. My opponant was about 1000m below. I figured since gravity wouldn't have an effect, why not try. Still got the track.

If you can't hit something up close, try hitting it from a distance. We are not all created equal and we all have our own strengths.

With BnZ, I found the best defense was to fly straight and level. The reason is to gain E and let your opponant think you haven't noticed him. When your opponant is about to fire, turn and climb either left or right and only turn about 35 degrees. Don't bleed your E.

Eventually your opponant becomes frustrated and both you and him will be at closer alts. Whoever is the most patient will likely be the victor. BnZers have patience, you need more.

Before going online, I was able to go up against 16 Ai and kill those who didn't run into their other Ai comrads.

Then I went online and had my 6 handed to me at an alarming rate. It took a long time before I got my first honest kill. No stray bullets, no head ons, and no bailing in front of my enemy. We met, we maneuvered, we fought, I won.

I continued to play and worked my way up the ladder of success. I often got 3 or 4 kills before heading back to base for a new fully loaded plane.

Then I stopped flying for about a year. Oleg's baby had advanced well beyond my late 18th century pc. I finally built a new pc but things had changed so much my skills became noobier than the noobiest.

I played offline for some time to sharpen my skills. Then, recently, I installed PF and 4.02. Now, with the the sensitivity of a pmsing woman, these planes are almost completely useless in combat.

I'm using the Evo and when I approach a bomber squadron I aim, fire, and hit the plane beside the plane I was aiming at. My plane sways and wobbles like it's balanced on a flexible needle point.

I am sure, I am now the worst pilot. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I'm real n00b and l4m3r when it comes to flying fighters. The only thing in which I'm not complete lame is level bombing. Count me in. Recently I have gotten worse. Even average AI can take me apart quite often, especially if they are in a CR-42. Don't know what it is about that thing. If I'm flying it is slow and inadequately armed but put a droid pilot in it and it kicks my a$$ all over the sky. I pretty much get my kills by stalking planes that are going for another target. In a straight-up dogfight my odds of winning drop waaaay down.

Well I'm good, ... Damm good.
-I can shoot people down when I'm in a spin, even when they're in a spin.
-I have this knack of hitting the other with wild deflection shots, that's when I cannot even see their plane.
-I can outfly a Yak3, Spit, LA5/7 all in my lovely little baby FW190

I can occasionally outturn things in a 109 ( things like .. the ground http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ).

But my real noobness is reserved for BnZ - I don't think I've EVER hit any fighter I'm trying to bounce. Sometimes I hit a B17 from high 12, but they never go down, so it's all wasted effort http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I'm ok in a spit, but I find it hard to fly anything else and come out on top. I don't think I can shoot well enough to fly the boom and zoom types, although I seem to be able to work boom and zoom resonably well in spit vs zeros and what not.

I love the MkIX and VIII spits though, you just raise the wheels and your set to fly, you don't need to worry about supercharger settings, mixture, pitch or radiators etc.

I am not a bad pilot seeing as I fly for a living, but a civilian Aircraft is nothing compared to these warbirds. I still bounce 2 or three times on every landing in this sim and stall far to many times than I care to admit, but my worst skill is gunnery. I can't hit a manouvering target to save my virtual life.

My only good defensive tactic is to fly very low(less than 50 feet) as fast as I can while jinking back an forth to throw off a persuers aim. While he is occupied with trying to hit me, I am looking for the 'cr#p forest' (you know, the trees you can't see very well if you are right next to the ground flying at them edge on). I then pull up just before hitting the trees. Usually I see a message about the perusing plane crashing into the forest behind me.

Most of my online kills have been in an IL2. I think a lot of people underestimate it when they see it. I have killed quite a few BF109 with an IL2 interceptor.

I'm a bad pilot. I still fly off-line without engine management (haven't figured the pitch, mixture and charger-thing out) and veteran and ace AI kill me on a regular basis. The only good thing to be said for my flying is that I can rather regurarely land a Hurricane.

There is where I suck. Ground attack. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif
Strafing: Reasonably good.
Bombing, level or dive: Unless I'm in a P-39 you can stand there and moon me feeling completely safe.
If I am in an Aircobra, through, I'll land that bomb right between your cheeks.

I do not know why this is, exactly. For some reason the P-39 and I get along doing everything. In air-to-air I use any fighter to good effect, but in ground attack my bombing skills - despite practice. I have a couple of different missions where I established GA Ranges with trains, convoys, AFV's in combat formations, ET CETERA - lag painfully.

I know just how you feel! I have a track of me in a P-39D2 over Bomana Airdrome doing the same, d@mn thing! My rudder predals had just broken so I had switched to using twist on my stick until such time as I can replace the pedals. I had a wierd roll on take-off that distracted me and I forgot to retract flaps and gear. Then I went through a series of tight, aerobatic maneuvers (I think I even flew under a nearby bridge!). I kept wondering why my P-39 felt so sluggish and why I was having such a hard time keeping my nose down! Then, during a dive, I got a "Flap Jammed" message.

In the last month Iv started on the hard stuff.... on line

I... I... I.. SUCK !!!

Iv done everything that my mother warned me against

Iv run into friends on runways.
Iv crashed into friends chasing the same bandit
Iv run out of ammo and fuel way to early
Iv been flying along straight and level in a hot area...but not for long
Iv chased bandits over his lines...where his friends wait for me
I cant shake someone off my six for love or money
My situational awareness in in the region of ...where the flip did he come from?
I boldly go where angels fear to tread
I can spin into the ground at the drop of a hat
All other aircraft are faster and better shots than me...thanks Ivan
I personally blame it on the fact that I dont have a BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB video card

People tell your children..... dont do it
Learn from my mistakes
Please
dont
do
it

ITs much too much FUN

Count me in as a bad pilot.

Why?

- Sometimes I can take off not looking like being heavily under the influence ..

- Almost allways, my SA is absent. (Like thinkin': "Where did he/she/that go?" after trying to get at a some six .... followed by: "Where did he/she/that come from?" after something bad happens rendering my aircraft unflyable ...)

- 10 out of 10 times I'm too impatient to go 'round a sensible landing pattern.

- Look's like I'm in love with the Refly button

There's one thing I do control: The side slip.
(Got me lot's of practice being impatient on landing approach!)

And in general I can control the aircraft in all manners and movements.
Well, that is, untill it suddenly spins, appearantly without any reason. But that must be a gremil2n in my puter.

Guess I'm just a fun pilot!

I'm not sure what qualifies for "really" bad pilot, but I can happily admit anything like this.
I have the tendency to mix up things. For example, some of my last words:
- "I will let him closer on this head-on, so I can hit him more eas....."
- "Now, that must be 110% an enemy aircraft."
- "I will catch that diving FW-190 with my La-5, let me just add max. throttle as well"
- "Hmmm...I should have found the friendly column along this road, but saw nothing. Hey, here are some tanks, probably enemy, I will bomb them."
- "Strange, how comes that this P-51 suddenly turns like a P-39?" (because it is a P-39 in fact)
- "He probably will see me in his scissors and will not collide with me, I'm sure. "
- "25% fuel was enough in FW-190 for long time, must be okay with Me-109, too".
- "Why is this plane slow and engine overheating after takeoff?" (flaps)

Im not bad but Oleg has put a bad-luck-parameter in my game.

My projectiles and bombs miss their targets mostly, the hits the ground near the targets but is seems as if its full of powder instead of TNT.

My aircraft is a flak-magnet.
It never goes as fast, curvs as good and climbs as steep as other planes does.

When I jump into a game, a a/c crashes into me and I get penalaty point for killing one of my own.

If the airstrip is free, I pop up right into the sight of a vulching a/c and get killed.

30 seconds before the game is about to stop, I get killed.

If I have shoot up a enemy plane into fragments the game halts and saves him from getting killed.

I only get score for half of my kills.
If my fueltank is hit, the engine stops when Im to low to jump, and to far away from the field to land.

If I make a planned b&z and comes in the perfect positon for attack, the target is a friendly plane.

Suddenly without any warning I get killed, when I look at the trackfile its a lonly plane that selected me from a bunch of others and dives in and kills me with one bullet.

When Im all of a sudden manage to find a bomber that cant outturn me, I get a screenfreeze, and when its gone, my engine is smoking and my elevator is gone, and the bombers is a mile away.

Anyone got this Oleg/Murphy method in his game?

It's true about Dubbo, I suck but he can't hardly get in the cockpit without cutting himself he's that bad, then he gets mesmerised by all the dials and switches and just sits there dribbling.

Yes. Bad.

i've been flying in the virtual skies since "B-17 Bomber" in the early 80's by Intellivision.

I just never got the hang of being a good shot.

I've been flying for a couple of years now and I still can't shoot.
When I finnely do get the hang of it a patch comes out and I have to learn it all over again. This doens't bother me, what does is that some time if I don't fly for a couple of weeks. I get the idea that my settings have changed or that I have completly lost my flying skills. It is like my first time again and I have to learn to fly all over.
While some times a small flying break only makes me better.

Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce myself. I fly in II./JG1 as Lt. J.C. Aufderheide. In 85 squadron missions I have shot down 2, count em, 2 aircraft. After 2 years of online flying I have 8 total kills.

Sometimes my flying rises to the level of mediocrity. I should have a personal skin that says "Easy Kill"

If it was a School report it would read ' Signalnorth seems compleatly distracted while in the air, oblivious to all going on around him. Although I have spoken at great length to him about his need to concentrate, he continues to fly pretty circles of smoke and fire quite in contrast to the commendable efforts of others who have been flying online equally as long!' Do I consider my self a bad pilot? Yes, especially online. My air combat skills are really for the worst, and my gunnery is so good I cant hit any thing from distances more then 100 meters. Though I'm not such a bad ground ponder (count in occasional attacks on friendly ground forces) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

It makes me happy to see others having bad flight year.

I'm playing online for two months. In this time i shot down only one plane, and yet i stole that kill (sorry). My greatest success was run away from La7 (i was in FW190). Well it realy doesn't matter cause i crashed anyway while trying to center view with mouse. My best defensive maneuver is flat spin. If i do this good they leave me. I sitll havn't give up, but i don't know if i can take this any longer.

Woohoo! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

My best defence is to crash into the ground soon after the engagement, so that my attacker doesn't get any points.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I chased a bogey around for more than 20 minutes before I realized it was just a speck on my screen.

I turn on wingtip smoke before I crash so I can at least get some points for style.

People can shoot me down simply by pointing their finger at the sceen and saying, "Bang!"

Online enemies usually spare me, knowing that I'll probably cause more damage to my own team than they could ever hope.

In fact, here is an example of my fine skill: last week I was online in a coop engaging 190's with Cobras. I knocked down two 190's and was feeling pretty awesome until I engaged another one that popped up right in front of me. We ducked and weaved and he dove for the deck...I pounded away at him with the 2 50's and saw the sheet metal fly, but only a bit of oil was leaking out of him. After a sweaty-palmed, shoulder-aching aerial totentanz that went on for 20 minutes I finally worked my way into a solid double tap with the 37mm and he caught fire, pin wheeling into the ground from 50m.

So I called up my AI wingman to vector us home and got no response. I looked around thinking he was gunned down while I was chasing the FW but no one was around except my live players. Going over it in my mind I slowly realized that the FW I shot down looked a little funny.

Hmmm. then I saw my score and realized that the Cobra's DM is overmodelled because it should have only taken me one cannon hit to knock my wingman out of the sky.
