I always thought that in a simulator like il2 and il2fb the absence of this aircraft has always been quite surprising. Don't you think that this useful and versatile plane should have been included at least in in one of the add on?

Like tenmmike said, it's probably gonna be in the paid addon.
Just as a sidenote, IL-2 is an Eastern Front sim at heart, so I don't think the absence of a Spitfire should be that surprising (although I do think the USSR got some as part of the lend lease agreement).

There should be 3 diffrent versions of the spit in the add-on with several sub-varients.

look around around a bit at www.netwings.org (http://www.netwings.org)

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

They are rebuilding the Hurricane for BoB, they showed it to us in the developement updates.
So I think it's safe to say no, besides the later model Spitfires did not fight in BoB anyway.

Airbot plz ......

russia recieved over 1000 spitfires during WW2

they flew combat & patrol sorties over russia during WW2

where does this lead you to think that they should be absent ?

I was under the impression that Spitfires were only provided in small numbers, but now it seems my memory was failing me. So I was partially mistaken, and I apologize.
Still, the P40 for example wasn't in the original IL-2, although it was delivered in almost twice the quantities of the Spitfire, so I still don't see why the inclusion of a Spitfire in FB is THAT obvious.

And no HellToupee, Zeroes and Ki43s aren't Eastern Front, and they certainly shouldn't be expected to be in the game. The fact that they are is a bonus.
As for P40s, like I mentioned earlier these were delivered in almost twice the quantities of the Spitfire. So yes, I'd say they're pretty Eastern Front.
Thunderbolts and Mustangs were also delivered as part of the lend lease, albeit in small numbers.

You have to understand that IL2 and FB are pure eye-candy. Both games are beautifull. Adding the spitfire would just take away from the visual appeal of both games.

Having the spitfire in FB would be like putting a concrete yard-gnome in the garden of eden.

I see a question mark. Are you questioning these a/c being in FB?

Depends on how you define EF. The P-38, P-51 and possibly the P-47 were seen over eastern Europe. There is even wrecked P-51s, and some B-17s, in the Ukraine.

What Japanese a/c were encountered by the Soviets in their attack on Japanese forces in Manchuria in summer of 1945? The sim is called Forgotten Battles.

Wow this thread went off track quickly. FB is not a Eastern Front sim anymore so lets leave that discussion for another thread.

The Spitfire we will get in Battle of Britain will have much higher detail levels than the ones we are getting in FB not to mention that no Mark 1's are slated for FB at the moment...the Spitfires under development are 1941 and later models.

Well, the "non-representative plane" genie is long out of the bottle. And actually, the Spit V is not so out of place in some areas of the Eastern Front.

Of course, with so many Brit fan-bois out there (now joining their Ami brethren), any Spit that does appear will be used ALL OUT OF REASONABLE PROPORTION by the mass hordes who lack any understanding of, or appreciation for, history. But, well, that's our community, I guess.

Perhaps a way will surface where IL-2/FB will be allowed to be "franchised", and modders will be allowed to make terrains, import objects, etc., so we can create the theatres we want...or perhaps the new BoB system will allow it, as well as allowing the large IL-2/FB planeset to be quickly upgraded to that new system. Then, we might have a great game system, and opportunities to have all the theatres we want, with representative planes in ALL of them.

Until now, it's going to be "Spits and P-51s over the Kuban" :rolls eyes:

Yawn, with the new Western front maps already in the game the Spitfire V, IX and the XIV or the P-51's are as much into place as the IL2 Sturmovik's over the Eastern front maps.
So it's not the lack of understanding of, or appreciation for, history.

It certainly is when those planes are allowed in unlimited quantities in Russian front map DF arenas. Along with Zeros and Franks, too.

I'm not complaining about the Western maps. Now that those planes have places where they can be representative, fine. Those are fun and interesting in their own right.

You took the words right out of my mouth Milo.

Just to add something to these so called "historic" or " realistic" dogfight arena's is that nearly every German plane is fitted with an MK108 cannon, but I guess Stiglr will say that the MK108 was commonly used on the Eastern front, lol.
