Just got this game, and I'm still confused on the many different version and patching..

Downloaded the Ultimate Collection which contains FB/Ace/PF/PE I believe..

And I think it already comes patched to 4.05m? Thats the version I show when I run the game. Apparently this version is not compatible to play online at ubi...

Does that mean I should look for 4.05m servers only? And where do I find them?

Second question... the tutorials in the game show takeoffs and landings, but I can't practice them (except the carrier ones). Are there missions somewhere that I can download and practice take-offs and landings solo? Could use one to practice gunnery as well.. straight flying drones or dumb pilots.

Third question... the navigation map.. I can bring it up but it doesn't track my plane and I can't seem to figure out if I can select a way point for the auto pilot to go to etc.. is there any? Can't seem to zoom out of that map either.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Welcome here!

Majority of online action happens via Hyperlobby (http://www.hyperfighter.sk). (Download the client from there). Via this client, you can connect to 4.05m servers...

4.05m is currently the latest patch level, so that's easy for you: no patching!

Gamekeeper has created TLGen, take off and landing generator (http://www.mission4today.com/index.php?name=Downloads&file=details&id=342). It creates missions to try take offs and landings.

Zooming in/out on the map is done by a rightclick with the mouse. Missing plane icons could be a difficulty option switched on, (No map icons), missing the waypoints: 'No minimap path'.

There's lots more to be told, lots more to be learned.

Wait for others...
And maybe have a look at Bearcat99's Sturmovik Essentials (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/51910959?r=51910959#51910959)

Have Fun!

There are also some carrier landing missions under Single Missions. You'll have to first navigate the menu to either USN or Japanese Navy and then select an aircraft type. Not all planes have carrier landing single missions if I remember correctly. Or you could fly the Coral Sea Quick Mission map and search out the carriers there.

All the above is good advice... in addition.... initially to get the feel of the sim and practice gunnery I recommend you just set up a few quick missions. I recommend that you try to keep your settings as a bare minimum with all flight characteristics set to realistic..ie stalls & spins, headshake etc. The cockpit settings are up to you.. especially in the beginning... but keep the flight models as realistic as possible. Go into a QM (Quick Mission) in the plane of your choice and set your ammo to unlimitted. Put the enemy in an inferior plane and at a rookie level.... some say practice on friendly bombers but I disagree... friendlies wont try to evade you.... fire as if you had limmited ammo.... no spray and pray.... as your skills improve give the enemy better aircraft and kick up the enemy level. As you continue to improve then play with the odds... go from say 1v1 to 2v1 or 4v2 to 6 v2 like that. The sim has a steep learning curve but it is alot of fun. For bombing practice just set up a multiplay DF (dogfight) yours will be the only plane in there.. but you can load up with bombs or rockets.. and proceed to bomb each of the enemy bases. Very challenging... the nice thing abot that is that you can return to a friendly base , land, hit refly, load up again and go back to the base and finish it off.... but the AAA is very good.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Have fun...... and again.. welcome to the sim.

Thanks for all the response. It indeed has been a steep learning curve. I haven't been able to land successfully even once!

It appears the Ultimate Collection comes not only fully patched but also with the skin pack and few other odds/ends that one can download from this website. Hence those who bought this through Ubi's download service is good to go after install.

Unfortunately, it doesn't include the European battle pack..

On UBICOM when you get the incompatible version message, ignore it and try to join, this is often simply because the host is running his game with a NO CD patch and it throws up this message, due to the NO CD patch being a different number, you will in all probability be still able to join. My No CD patch version works fine on there as UBISOFT WROTE IT INTO THE PROGRAMME to allow me to BETA TEST the forums as I was one of the testers............ so before you jump down my throats for mentioning it MODS, IT IS UBI APPROVED.
