I don't know if it is new but they had an episode about night fighters on last Friday. I missed most of it but the part I did see was about the P-61 and the the Mosquito.

I think they are airing the remainder of season 2 of Dogfights, and then that's it. But, you never know. I saw part of one on Friday that I had never seen before, first segment was about a night-fighter Mosquito in Europe, the second about Lt. Jeremiah O'Keefe's 5 kills on April 22nd, 1945 with VMF-323 in the Corsair, I think it moved on to a segment about Korea at that point. The episode was called "Supersonic", I believe the theme was fast aircraft vs. slow aircraft.

There are two more episodes listed on the wikipedia entry, one is a Operation Bodenplatte epsiode called "Death of the Luftwaffe", which is supposed to air on Thursday the 7th (doubtful, perhaps after Battle 360 on Friday?), and the other is a Falklands War episode.

Battle 360 was pretty cool, but kind of unfocused in places. It seemed like they jumped around way too much, they should have just stuck with a chonological order throughout the episode. Still, enough was good for me to watch it again this Friday.

That "Battle 360" show looks good. I have not seen it yet, but the commercials I have seen look good http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I don't think Dogfights was canceled. Last friday was a new episode. It even said so on my DVR. It's a popular show so it would behoove the History Channel to continue the series.

BUT, I missed the Battle 360. I'll have to catch the re-run in the future and will for sure record it this week.

I have the History channel here (Canada) and I saw a little bit of a program where they used CGI to illustrate the story of different dogfights from WWII. Cool, I thought but got very disappointed. I felt IL2 was far more realistic than this and the stories was very onesided and oversimplified. I much prefer a good book and rather see the CGI from IL2. Is this the same program as you are watching? Was I just unlucky and should try some more?

I wathced some show earlier on Discovery (isnt that the same?) concerning the battle between Mig and the Sabre in the Korean war and felt that was of an entirely different scale of quality. It had good interviews and they really got into some depths on both the training and technologi of the planes ( and visibility and handling etc.)

When I has zapped by History ch, it has mostly been bad. Most times I look its featuring a soapopera with a marine officer investigated stuff.

No it was a repeat it will show up as a new show how-ever because of the year.

"night- fighter" aired originaly in Aug07

Matter of fact I looked at the list and there all repeats on the DOG Fights web pageDOgfights (http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=Minisite_Episodes&content_type_id=52079&display_order=2&mini_id=51833)

You are right, the night fighters episode, which has a segment with the F6F-5N, P-61, F3D, and F-15s in night attacks, is a repeat. However, the episode titled "Supersonic" with the Mosquito night fighter, Corsair, F-86, and F-4 was a new episode.

I thought I had all the Dogfight series, but I see several new ones coming up not on my lists: Supersonic, No Room for Error, Secret Weapons, Falklands, and Death of the Luftwaffe. At least new to me.
The SUPERSONIC episode ran Feb-29, was a new show. I'm glad I had left my DVR set to record any new episodes. The first fight just happened to show Mosquitos in a night fighter mode, but the episode was showing the factor speed had during the dogfights over the last 50 yrs (about). Mosquito, Corsair, Sabre, and Phantom, which scored the first and only gun kill at supersonic speed.
Another new epsiode this week, after the new Battle 360 episode.

Battle 360, is all new of course, BTW last week's episode replays immediately before this weeks, for those that missed it, (including me). Got my DVR set on it now.

BTW, this Friday looks like they're having a Dogfights Marathon, running episodes all day.

Dogfight Schedule (new shows) Mar-7 Death of Luftwaffe, Mar-14 Secret Weapons.

I saw Battle 360 and loved it. For those who don't know it's going to follow the exploits of The Big E from pearl harbor to the end of the war.

Battle 360 kind of reminded me of Dogfights, similar graphics and all but like Dogfights not bad. Its too bad they are cancelling Dogfights, probably only to be replaced by yet another stupid UFO or conspiracy show. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Hey guys! Been Lurking here for a while. Decided to actually post after seeing this thread. There are three episodes of dogfights left "Y-29" "Secret Weapon" and a 2 hour special on the future of air combat.

and to the guys who said they liked Battle 360... Thanks!

I'm FX lead at one of the two companies working on it(the one that does Dogfights). I'm responsible for the explosions, smoke, fire, etc. that Episode was mostly the other company's work. with some of our shots from a later episode used to fill it out. Ours where the ones with the cloudy skies and the right paint job on the carrier. we're doing the episodes two on, two off. so our first full episode. will be episode three. Be sure to check that one out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hi Diphon and thanks for joining the discussion. Glad you could give us some insight into what's going on with the shows. I think it's really cool how the bullets hit a plane. I think the sound and visuals are awesome, no matter what anyone else says. I especially liked the last Dogfights show with the bullets hitting that kamikaze Nate (I think it was) down the fuselage and finally hitting the engine where it catches fire.
Great shows and FX http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

What's frustrating is the different listed titles for episodes. i.e.,
depending on where you look, I found 3 titles for yesterday's episode: Y-29, Death of the Luftwaffe, and Bodenplatte.

I'm disappointed that they're canceling the Dogfights series as well. Did they run out of old veterans to interview? This was one of the best series the History Channel has had in a long time IMO. It had to be a hit. Was it not that popular with the masses?
Perhaps they'll restart it again in the future?

The thing that's frustrating is that THS has not said if they are canceling it or not. It's almost like they haven't quite made up their mind about it. If they would just set the schedule for it, then perhaps they will generate some buzz for the show again. Good idea showing it with Battle 360.

I liked last night's episode, but one complaint is that they continue to show mainly the Allied perspective. I can only think of one episode where they talked to Axis pilots, and that was the season 2 premiere.

The History Channel...or History has been slowly going down hill since the new management team took over. A lot less "history" and alot more Ice Road Truckers or Axmen.

Dogfights is dead as I saw a posting from one of the team members stating that they are not making any more.

As for Battle 360 it was OK. I may be getting old but it jumped around too much and the background graphics were annoying and it needs a new announcer. Don't want to be too negative since History seems to be getting out of the true history business.

Maybe they want a kinder gentler history - One that's more politically correct and has less patriot inspiration.

maybe they haven't made an Official Announcement. but it's sadly over. there are no new episodes planned after the future special.
and as far as the guys I work with who are working on it are concerned, they're out of work soon.

I asked some of the dogfight guys about this when I first started working there. and they wanted to do axis stuff but the writers and producers are very one sided.

That sucks, not just because the show is done, but because folks are going to be out of work. Hopefully the work they did will pave the way for a good job. Did anyone say why?

Bummer. Dogfights could have been comparable to "Wings" if given the chance.

Despite that, I'm really enjoying Battle 360. They picked a good focus for the story.

Maybe someone needs to point them to forums like this to see what their hard-core audience really thinks and would like to see. Who knows? Maybe if they would make more fewer 'popcorn' shows and more 'history' shows, viewership might actually go up.
