View Full Version : Patch V3.01 (3.01m) coming

Dear folks,

Our programmer finally come back (but another got sick http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif)
He said he need week or so that to get listed by me planes finally coded.
So we decided to release tomorrow the separate of new planes patch with fixes and improvements.

It is already compiled today, but not ready final readme. Should be ready by tomorrow morning.
I think it is the best way for the current moment that to do not wait for another week (and maybe you'll find something more that to fix? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif).

We will offer this patch as v3.01 for the stand alone PF and v3.01m (merged) for the common install PF into FB+AEP

All I promised (even more) will be included in that patch except new planes. Sorry, see above

In additional we will give some new effects on the water, etc....

Recommended drivers from the time of this patch:

ATI cards:
Catalyst 4.11 http://www.ati.com/home/online/CatalystCCCdriver.html
NVidia cards:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_66.93

I can say that it is our common work with the guys from these respected firms. Was fixes from both sides http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

There in the patch we will offer the new method of the program start (new executable programs)
We will keep old and new at once - you will be able to compare differences and report us which is the best.

The size will be ~60 Mb
And the size for these who like to test new method (new executable module) in additional ~7 Mb

With the tests here of new module we got better FPS... But the main purpose - to protect from possible in future online cheaters by the new method of code cripting.

We promised to change the gunnery of the ships - we did it. Even more - it is now more tunable here not only in custom missions, but as well in campaign (both single and online).

There also is present new map - Marianas. Several new campaigns (and fixes for some of old, where was bugs)

Fixes and improvemens list? It is simply impossible to list them all. I would say that the changes were applied to more than 200 modules of program where users found the bugs and where we ourselves were making improvements. So we will list just common changes (also not small list of couple pages!) which will include main changes and improvements without list of all the details (or we will write reade one more week http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif)

So, with the release of this patch we will look for the short respond and then will release add-on with the new planes and dedicated servers.

One more notice. We release it early than it can be placed on the Ubi site, so please arrange the mirrors for tomorrow somewhere. Or our own ftp will be overloaded as I think...

So if someone would like to help with the mirrors - contact me across known PF address - we will try to give the patch them before we will post common link here in this and general room.

Just one thing, and that is I hope the torp and bomb bug in online play has been fixed.

It's really annoying to see 4,5,6 torpedoes or bombs hit a destroyer, and do absolutely no damage just because you died before the ordnance hit the target.

Thanks for the info on the upcomming releases, spent the whole night programming a new DeviceLink Interface to Hardware Protocal and look forward to checking out the patch tomorrow.

I'm pulling out my hair from it's sockets, pardon the pun to all the programmers out there!
BTW thanks for encripting the online data, maybe in the future this would let us harware guys access the instrument readings parameters section with DeviceLink in multiplayer.

My gauges are on order for my home cockpit!

Cheers from Canada

Hmm where is Dedicated server software?
It's good that you make different water effects, that is very important too. Any idea to get some fish too? They probably look very good in game. Imagine vulching some fish when you patrol http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

I don't think that iti si good idea to make right now dedicated server (say 300 and 500 mb) and then due to new planes and final posible fixes ask to download onece more the same size.
Better to make once and then just update with add-ons. The reason only in this, trust me

I'm undewater photographer. My works used in magazines, calendars, etc...
As I diver with long time experinece I can tell you that to find the shark in the ocean isn't easy task... except the known places near some beaches and the place where they make small sharkless.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I did their photos with very close distance just several times for many years... and they were afraid me really... Of course it was not white or tiger sharks, but they were dengerous enough...
Same for other types of fishes in the open sea....
So the real picture is more close to NO fish at all..
However I agree that new the tropic coastal line should be a lot of small fishes... But... we don't model (did it and removed due to several other unexpected problems) the transparent water especially.

However in this patch you will get other than in the past picture when the plane is sank.

Is there any chance of a Philippians Campaign
or at least a Philippians map? I realise that the Phill is a HUGE area of over 700 islands in the entire chain but the southern Philippians & Luzon area's are pretty important for the USAAF side of things.

I would offer to mirror from our web site but i don't know how to set it up. lol the Guy in our group who codes our web site is very busy..but i will ask any way. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Oleg has reached a new level of responsiveness! I don't think the original poster was even being serious, but he received a serious, considerate and thoughtful reply. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

And I've been diving since I was 12 and support everything he says. In those 14 years I have seen a grand total of 4 sharks (3 nearby and 1 REAL close), not counting Nurse Sharks (which hardly deserve to be called sharks, puppy dogs that they are). However, my dream is to dive in Palau and the Solomons, where shark encounters are somewhat more frequent. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Anyways, great news about the patch. I will be too busy flying the real Ki-61 to deal with new planes anyways.

A good software with a good quality mangement and a well organized beta test would not need so much patches...

AWL_Spinner
11-18-2004, 02:20 AM
Manuc, would that be software with an unlimited development budget, no commercial release pressures, a ten-year design window and that only used established and dated technologies?

Also a large proportion of these (frequent) patches are concerned with enhancements and new additions and fulfilling the wishes of the community - where reasonable - it's not all about correcting errors.

Compared to some commercial game releases in recent times, the IL2 series has always been solid as a rock!

Thanks Oleg and crew!

I also think that no one game in the world has so grear-large code complexity at the moment. This is my very personal opinion, but I think it is true. And for about 4.000.000 lines of code the amount of bugs is way more smaller than in all simple games, drivers, etc...
Be sure to take it in account.

Also, if I only can decide when to release or when - not. I would make my sim as more time as it is neccessary. But it isn't...

And be sure we never make many patches. We usually make _the_ improvements and only realatively small fixes. Some time correct performance of the planes, if the data used intially was wrong (but again from accessible sources for the moment of release).

And if you will go back to the beginning (IL-2 release)and then follow all the readmes for the add-ons (was jut one official patch in the past for the 3 products - other was add-ons!) you may see that I tell you real truth. Isn't it?

I think no one sim has such support from developers as well as testing and help from around the world and third party work directly with developers.

You also speak to the main guy easy. Isn't it?

A good software with a good quality mangement and a well organized beta test would not need so much patches... <HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

With no other game you get so many add-ons for free.
And I know series of other games with as much or more problems where only one patch has been given (at most) with the message 'and now shut up!'.

It is interesting what digitalisation have brought to us. I made a comparison between €œThe Complete Works of Shakespeare €œ, that you see in the picture in my last post, and PF.
According to Oleg PF consists of 4.000.000 lines of code and TCWOS have 148400 lines approximately (1060x70x2). 4.000.000/148400 = 26.9! So the code in PF would have taken Shakespeare 27 lifetimes to write. And the (densely) printed PF code would fill a bookshelf with (0.06m x 27 books) 1.62m! Truly amazing!

So to the people that has found €œa bad rhyme in book 17, page 765, and line 56€.
All I can say is; thank you for taking your time writing!

My brother and I have been flying IL2 and all subsiquent versions since beginning. I for one have noticed a lot of jabber on the site about delays, dissapointment, etc. and your team has started to sound appologetic for this all the time. You should know from two loyal users, at the very least, you have done and are doing a great job, you make our flying experience fun and exciting and we appreciate your efforts. Keep up the good work and thanks for the new patch coming soon. Give'em a break pilots....... maybe you should try writing softwear like this sometime and see how fast you get it done.

CrazyIvan, as far as I can read Manuc did not hurt any forums etiquette, so there no need for comments like that. And as far as I know there's is the freedom of oppinion even at that board here IF nobody's feelings gets hurt. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

No, rookie, it is a board to come share news and discuss features, not to criticise a single person, a company or a product.

The economy-market is the ultimate method of democracy: If you don't want it, don't buy it. It is as simple as that.

And you surely cannot say that you're not allowed to express your opinion or something. But there is a difference between expressing your opinion to a specific theme and the rude behaviour against a single person, a buisiness or a product. You surely wouldn't go into a police station and call the first officer you see with the names and words you can read here. You'd get busted right away.
Nobody would act like that in RL, but this place is so nicely anonymous, that people think they can act in a way, that nobody would tolerate, especially not themselves.

But there's some news for ya - internet is not anonymous. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

End of discussion.

Its here, its great, I'm loving what they've done.

Coolest things:
- Ki-61 fixed and now a very potent machine
- Perfect water, even on water=0, looks fantastic without a difference in framerate (or better FPS, not sure)
- Splashes in the water are very cool
- Australian voices!

That´s to avoid Kamikaze-attacks. Otherwise kids run to the target at all cost knowing that they will hit but not come back after dropping the bomb/torpedo.
