Since becoming a moderator, I've tried to pay more attention to the Community Help forum (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=frm&s=400102&f=2881085392). There are a lot of noobies in there struggling/stuck with different problems - hardware, software, etc.

I had got so used to people posting their problems in this forum, that I forgot that the Community Help forum is probably the first place many newcomers go to seek help - and quite often they aren't getting any http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

There are many posts with zero replies, and many others that only have responses by other noobs who can't offer much help.

It would be great if some more of you expert Kaleuns could check the Community Help forum on a regular basis to see if you can help anyone (I know some of you already keep an eye on the Help forum).

I've responded to some threads today, but I couldn't help everyone. For example:

Graphics problem (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&f=2881085392&m=9241031564&r=9711005564)

Another graphics problem (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/3001069364)

Game won't start (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/9571080364)

Sound problems (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/8701029264)

GW music/gramophone problem (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/7471060264)

Multiplayer question (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/7631007164)

Graphics card advice needed (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/2881085392/m/5851024464)

These cries for help are just a sample I took from the first page of the forum - I wonder how many others have slipped through with no response or solution. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

I'm concerned that we may be losing out on valuable 'new blood' in the SH3 community because some of these folks get disappointed with the game and the SH3 forums - people who otherwise may become active, valued members of the forum as a whole. So let's show them some true SH3 Ubootwaffe spirit! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Youre right.

I almost ignored the Community Help completely and will check it now frequently to help. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Sad is that many people have strange hardware or software related problems we cant help them with and most of them say that the UBI costumer support does not offer them any useful help. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Hey Viking maybe im wrong but the help site seems to be missing a direct link to the community manual. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Maybe you could throw in a sticky with a note to check this out before posting questions.

Good idea! I've now added a sticky.

It's not your fault - the design of the forum doesn't make it obvious enough that there are three SH3 forums in the Ubi community. The other two, 'Community Help' and 'Community Creatives' have links in the top left of the list posts. They are not sub-forums - they are more like 'sister forums':

Silent Hunter III forums (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/cfrm/f/543104453)

Incidentally, you can get straight to the above page by using the list of links near the top of every forum page (just under the logo graphic). Just click on the 'Silent Hunter III' link:

ubi.com > Forums > Silent Hunter III > Silent Hunter III - General Discussion > Help needed in Community Help forum

Similarly, you can also see all the other Ubi game forums by clicking on the 'Forums' link.

Interesting idea bunkerrat. How do you see it working?

I was thinking we could have a sticky (there's quite a few there already though) with different problem topics and lists of people to send problems to. But that's no good because all that valuable info would be hidden away in private discussions.

Great - I could do with reading that myself!

I'm also looking to try and get the forum descriptions changed. At the moment, they are like this:

Silent Hunter III - General Discussion
Talk about submarines, ships, and everything Silent Hunter III related here

Silent Hunter III - Community Help
Come here for support and help from other forum members

Silent Hunter III - Community Creatives
Get making your movies, screens, missions, and post them in here! [/list]
The 'Community Help' one is OK, but I want to change the 'General Discussions' description to something like this:

Talk about tips, tactics, submarines, WW2 military history and everything Silent Hunter III related here.

...and replace the 'Community Creatives' description with something like this:

Ideas, help and tips for Silent Hunter III mods and missions.

I'm not too sure about this last one. The 'Creatives' forum is relatively quiet. I just think that the existing description of "Get making your movies, screens, missions, and post them in here!" does not reflect how it is used, as most of the threads seem to be about mods and missions.

Celeon - a big thank you for all the attention you're giving to the Community Help forum http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
