..that maybe they can be programmed fer use with touch-screen monitors fer BoB?

I think that this would be very cool at the least. I also believe that this would give an extreme edge to the BoB as far as being able to expand with this technology if it is looked into RIGHT NOW!!
It could also free up even more button assignments if you could just touch where the particular toggle, switch etc. was while looking at it on screen.
just an idea! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

"So..IF we DO get torp planes who is gonna model the torps themselves? And the fleet??
And can we fly through explosion water spouts? Will flying through water spouts have an effect on the fm of torp planes? Will there be "perfect water" on the windscreens of the torp planes when flying low through water spouts??Will water explosions cause the torps to deviate course?..Will we get better instrument height incrementation when below fifty feet?!!"
Now I see the inherent troubles in modelling the torp planes. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

So basically you want a 'clickable cockpit'?

jeroen:

Yes a clickable cockpit in a way. not like b-17 had where you point the mouse at it but actually to work in conjunction with touch screen technology. That way say,in maybe zoom view of some type you could look at a particular guage and just touch that instrument on screen and the task is carried out.Like the manual gear crank for example.Zoom in on it and touch it and it will turn.Or the trim rotaries. Anything that could be manipulated ny the pilot with his hands could be modeled somehow onto a touch screen.Have it function only in close up instrument view or something like that. And of course you could always model defective or non functional guages so you would have to "Tap" the guage to get it correctly working again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
And if some ppl dont want to spend the money for a touch screen thats cool.To me it is the same with ppl and the trackir.Dont want it? Ya dont have to.But it is there for ppl who do want it.
I would like to see this because a flight sim would be the best place for this type of control to be implemented.I just dont know what kind of N.S.A. super-puter one would need for this to be implemented.Probably too much. That could be why it hasn't already been done.Especially fer a commercial sim that has mundo guages abound. But maybe fer WWII planes it could very well work. But I would like to see someone, anyone take a stab at it,so long as it is Oleg 'N' Crew!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
The reason I thought of this was someones post regarding the senses and flight simming.Although the topic was about ffb sticks it made the idea come up and now I cant get away from it.
I dunno.Maybe the idea itself is just not feasible fer the next few years.

If the devicelink interface were improved, this would be simple without any extra support from the game. I already have an instrument panel/flight logging application that runs on my notebook while I fly on my game machine. Add some buttons and switches along with a touch screen and it's a done deal. The touch panel comms is a simple serial connection.

I suggest you purchase the panel for me and I'll let you know how it works.

Sure would be a pain.Every time I swatted a fly or killed a gnat on my screen my landing gear would come down.

Not to mention what might happen when I blow Coco-Cola out my nose while laughing at someones online joke.

Hm...I am affraid that if You are in dogfight, you will broke down the monitor with nervous movements...http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif The keyboard is cheaper!
Just my oppinion!

Well considering that touch screens are DESIGNED with different pressures taken into consideration I dont think that is of any worry.
As fer the fly's,gnats and coke thing :I figured it wouldn't take too long fer someone to bring up greasy potato chip fingaz. Just shows some of the forward thinking minds that are attracted to flight sims.
But again what was I thinkin'? I mean : No torp planes,NO 128 man servers: the TWO main attractions to this game fer ALOT of ppl.
Musta breathed in too much carbon dioxide tweakin in my Chevelle!! That'll learn me **** to never buy a game after workin on my car!!

Don't touchscreens control the mousecursor?

Sure you could make something that bypasses the mousecursor and directly reads the touchscreen but why lock out the mouse users?

The idea is perfectly feasible, it just needs some people to work it out.

How would 'tapping' a broken gauge make it work again?
Percussive repair only works in movies. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

@jereon:

"Don't touchscreens control the mousecursor?"

I DONT know that is why I brought it up.

"Sure you could make something that bypasses the mousecursor and directly reads the touchscreen but why lock out the mouse users?"

Why would it affect mouse control?I see this in my local Wal-Mart. Touch AND mouse. I guess it will take Ol' Billy that BASTID to make it a reality.
S'pose I should step with me idea to someone who actually sees the profit from this.

I just spent a few minutes looking at the first item on a google search for "touch screen" and the monitor simply connects to the serial port. Drivers can be customized at will so it's not limited to emulating a mouse.
