View Full Version : Ping Rate Warnings

Hey Fellas,

As a pure Noob, I tried to get into a couple of on-line games tonight (providing a target to others, 'tis my role), and both times I got 'excessive ping rate' warnings from the server and was booted just about the time I managed to find the war...

What am I doing wrong?

Are you a 56k modem player? If so, go to community help forums and look under the topic IL2 and dialup. Maybe that can help you. If your a cable user, not sure what could be wrong. If you need more help and your a dial up user, then go to the topic in community help.

But keep in mind that even with a solid 56k connection many servers will autokick you.

This is because the hosts of larger servers really prefer participants using broadband connections only, as those of us on dial-up tend to cause a significant amount of lag with lots of planes in the air.

I suggest looking for servers with a smaller number of participants with 16 players being the max. Maybe 24 if you have a really good connection.

Nope, no dial-up for me... cable modem/DSL.

Even with cable modem/DSL you need to look for servers with lower ping rate value. Maybe 120 and under, preferably 80 and under.

Ok... will try.

Spent some time tonight on some free-for-all server (mostly trying to keep no-longer-flightworthy aircraft in the air), didn't get the boot there.

Reloaded a server with a cool historical backdrop only to have my server connection zapped when the wife performed a Wild Weasel mission using the cordless phone (snapping the wireless network in half). I had almost formed up with a flight leader when it happend. :-(

More soon, can't wait....

I was the guy with the original problem... point was that it isn't my dial up that might be the issue, as I don't have one. ;-)

If you are using wireless be aware that while it will work for most games, traffic sensitive games will occasionally detect the polling of wireless networks as interruptions. It's not a loss of ping but can result in the odd dropped packet (especially with a non-verified protocol like UDP"). Also, the fact that your cordless phone interfers is a Really Bad Thing as it should not be interfering AT ALL with your wireless. You really should do some frequency or channel deconfliction there. I have all cordless phones in my home and two seperate wireless networks (yeah, I said two...professional geek...) and they don't step on each other.

I use a D-Link 4300GL Gaming router for shaping my bandwidth and running the primary wireless and it's pretty solid...even so, my game computer is connected via direct wire to the router (which doubles as a gigabit switch) for online gaming.

WWSensei,

You sold me... I've always suspected my router wasn't up to snuff, this is the final straw. Looked at the D-Link you have and it looks like the right item for me (my Belkin has been a pain).

Thanks!

Good news: New Router will rock.

Bad News: I just got my port forwarding and so on finally set up, just in time to do it again.

Excellent, thanks!

I'm using All Seeing Eye, rather than Hyperlobby, so some of that might not translate exactly, but it sure sounds like the same thing.

Fix router issue, then find out what else is wrong... nut'in to it <whistles past graveyard>

I am having these so called HIGH PING and TIMED OUT/TIMING OUT problems and I am on 3.0dsl modem with a linksys router but...
I tried a number of various things such as lone computer on the router to no router. I tried changing the MAXLAG settings.
I wasn't having these problems until the most recemt or two recent updates since they came out back to back...
Please read about more info on my problems at the link below...
