Why do the throttles go to 110%? By definition, maximum power should be 100%. And, of course, I'm not talking about WEP. You can have 110% throttle with no WEP at all.

???

I cannot help but be reminded of Spinal Tap, with Nigel explaining how his Marshall Amps "go to eleven":

MARTY: Why don't you just make 10 louder, and make 10 be the top number, and make that a little louder?

(LONG PAUSE, puzzled look on Nigel's face)

NIGEL: These go to eleven.

**************************
I'm guessing Oleg is a big Spinal Tap fan and the 110% throttles are his tribute.

Well, if you take 100% to mean the maximum recommended engine setting, then 110% IS possible as you are "overdriving" the engine.

Try and think about it outside of the box.

That sounds more like contriving excuses rather than thinking outside of the box.

wep can mean more throttle (rpm and supercharger/turbo bost at 110%.. the various injection can also be added to this ...it is done in fb because thats how it was in real life..on some aircraft the throttle had a light weight wire strung across the the throttle quadrent at 100%.you had to push through that wire to get to 110%and that is wep as well with no sort of injection but was usaly a boost in maifold pressure above normal limits (just as the rpm was)..thats the way it was

It was decided a looong time ago, with the development of FB. FB still was supposed to be a freeware patch back then. But, FB became so big, they made it a payware CD. A wise decision. The developers where given something in return for their hard work that way.

But anyways, in the original Il-2, every plane had WEP. This of course was unrealistic. It was then decided that 100% still was the max power but, the controls where allowd for a 10% over-rev. And some planes where given some kind of WEP but, only the planes that had it in real life too.

1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge,
ye shall be judged: and with what
measure ye mete, it shall be measured
to you again.

"By definition, maximum power should be 100%."

The term "maximum" is, in fact, a multiordinal term, it (like most words) has no absolute meaning, but is rather defined by the context in which it is used. In the context of military engines maximum is defined within the constraints of expected engine life. During wartime emergencies this maximum may be exceeded (hence the term "war emergency power").

"And, of course, I'm not talking about WEP. You can have 110% throttle with no WEP at all."

Yes, you are talking about WEP. 110% is WEP. You seem to be confused wrt boost devices which are often used in conjunction with WEP, but to go over 100% is to use WEP even if no other system is used (or available).

"That sounds more like contriving excuses rather than thinking outside of the box."

No, it is exactly thinking outside the box. The box you are stuck in is one of Aristotelian origin. Aristotelian "logic", Euclidian geometry, and Newtonian physics are boxes that should be thought outside of.

Here is a good book to read:

"Science and Sanity" an introduction to non-Aristotelian systems and general semantics by Alfred Korzybski founder, Institute of General Semantics.

Thats deep Fillmore, very interesting. That Aristotle, what a character, alwayse trying to wreck things for everybody; building boxes we can't get out of and such. Diabolical. If I could hack FB code, I'd change it to read -117% at full power. What would Aristotle do then!?! Ha.

not all planes have 110% power, 100% is full power and 110% is combat power and other planes with MW50 etc have the extra so called WEP

La5 only has 100% la5F has 110%

Umm, ok then.

My advice: Uninstall the game. Forget you ever played it. God knows, that extra 10% is just that much of an annoyance, isn't it.

Why is it so hard to fathom? 100% = full military power, 110% = maximum power the engine can make but outside of recommended specifications. Not really a reach OR an excuse.

You are making a big deal out of a small thing. Yes, mathmatically speaking, 110% is an impossibility (by definition, 100% is the maximum os ANYTHING), but there is no need to be anally retentive on the issue.

I spent a week looking just like that guy after I bought CFS3. Our squad was all ready to go there, and I bought that POS for my squadmate as a Christmas gift back then. Neither one of us could make it work right. $100.00 US, and when I called tech support, the guy that I talked to did NOT listen to me when I told him that XP was NOT my OS. So . . . . he had me DL and install a codec that crashed my 9x OS.

R E F O R M A T !

Yes, I looked just like that guy, and feel your pain.
